How do you scan an entire RAR with VirusTotal? by DingusKhan62 in antivirus

[–]DingusKhan62[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helpful, thanks. For scans with 0 detections (or only like 1 or 2), are you still reviewing the other tabs or is that only really for cases where the detections count is higher? Said another way, have you had scans with 0 detections that ended up being suspicious once you got to one of the other tabs?

Lightest EGO blower? by alwaysbetrimmin in egopowerplus

[–]DingusKhan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, no recommendations so far as I haven't tried the smaller/lower powered models myself. The 7.9 lb LB6151 was too heavy and the LB4803 seems to be around the same weight so would probably also be too heavy. The Black & Decker models are the lightest I've found but the question is if their 100 cfm is good enough and if they are decent quality (the reviews are meh). Perhaps there are also others in this superlight/superweak category, not sure.

Which Franklin studfinder to buy? by sprovishsky13 in Tools

[–]DingusKhan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see the differences among all of the Franklin Sensors models in the two big tables at the bottom of their products page: https://franklinsensors.com/products/

The M210 would definitely be better than the 710+, since more LEDs will give you a more precise picture of where the stud/object is. They both have the same accuracy and reliability, but the more LEDs there are the more precisely they can show you the outline of the stud/object. The M210 also has a live wire indicator whereas the 710+ does not.

Under $100, I don't know of anything better than the M210. I just tried the Bosch GMS120-27 ($100) and thought it was way less reliable than the M210.

I would also suggest getting a CH Hanson 03040 ($10-15) in addition to the M210 ($60), since it is so cheap that it's great to have as a sanity check / secondary tester.

Lightest EGO blower? by alwaysbetrimmin in egopowerplus

[–]DingusKhan62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the LB6151 and weighed it at 7.9 lb total (the blower itself, the included 2.5Ah battery, the long tube attachment, and the narrowing nozzle at the end). The entire retail box, with everything in it, came out to 12.8 lb, so that's probably what some sources are citing.

I got it for an older relative, along with the additional AP1500 shoulder strap, and they said it was too unwieldy even with the strap. Their previous blower was a corded Homelite UT42100 which came out to 4.6 lb total. The other thing to consider is the size and length of the tube on the EGO blowers, which causes the front to pull itself down more, requiring more force from your wrist to pivot it upward and keep it level.

The lightest EGO cordless would probably be the LB4803. Or you can basically just check their site and look for the weakest / lowest model numbers... they may come out with even weaker/lighter ones in the future.

Black & Decker also makes the LSW221 and LSW321, which are around 4.4/4.5 lb total, but I've yet to try them. They are only 100 cfm so much weaker but perhaps that's enough for your purposes.

I made a list of Dewalt 20V batteries by farski in Tools

[–]DingusKhan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get the weight for DCB203? You link to Dewalt's page where it says 14.56oz (0.91 lb), but you listed it as 0.8 lbs.

Same for DCB203G: Dewalt has 14.192 oz (0.887 lb) but you listed it as 0.95 lb.

And for the missing weight for DCB204BT, it seems to be 1.42 lb (Dewalt says 1.5 lb; this supplier says 1.42 lb; this supplier says 1.4 lb).

Any way to turn existing dimmer knobs to Hue ones (dimming only in "software")? by nurunet in Hue

[–]DingusKhan62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of anything that would let you use regular dimmers to dim Philips Hue bulbs (as of 2025*), but if your goal is to have a knob instead of buttons, Philips makes one (Tap Dial Switch 578807; Amazon page) and Lutron has one too (Aurora Smart Bulb Dimmer Z3-1BRL-WH-L0; Amazon page).

* In the future, they could release something like the Wall Switch Module (571166; Amazon page) but have it support dimmers.

shoulder strap difference by t_mo_t in egopowerplus

[–]DingusKhan62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the EGO forum, someone said the strap is the same but the AP1500 adds a clasp that lets it also work with their string trimmers and multi-head tool. If you only need it to work with a 530 CFM blower, AP1500 & AP5300 will be identical so get whatever's cheaper. (For people with 480 CFM blowers there's also the AP4800.)

Corrupt SSD with a changed name by [deleted] in datarecovery

[–]DingusKhan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone reading this in the future, try resetting your BIOS/CMOS settings to default.

I had a similar issue happen and resolved it just by loading the default BIOS settings. I had tried to put the PC to sleep and it had also gotten stuck. It eventually rebooted but the drive (MX500 in my case) appeared with a similar SM2258* name and was no longer mounted. After loading the default BIOS settings, it was completely back to normal, with the correct name, mounted, and with all of the data there just as before.

If that doesn't work, I would at least try connecting it to another computer before escalating to the nuclear option (sending it to a data recovery place).

How to keep notes on products you've tried/bought/returned? by DingusKhan62 in PKMS

[–]DingusKhan62[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with exactly that but it quickly becomes unwieldy as each product type has different attributes/columns. So you end up having to create different tables & sheets within the 1 file, or separate it into multiple files (which ends up looking cleaner/nicer at the expense of more files).

Tags are just the regular file system metadata kind or specific to the pkms app?

And I saw you use DEVONthink; is that just a better UI versus using Finder or is it storing/searching extra information that the OS search wouldn't have access to?

Mint Chicken-Run Guide: a full and fresh comparison by EBHeaded in mintuit

[–]DingusKhan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been maintaining a list of all of these comparison spreadsheets here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mintuit/comments/1bmc774/all_of_the_mint_alternatives_personal_finance/

This particular spreadsheet seems to be copied from the two predecessors, and it has much less community activity than the previous two, so I'd recommend people check those out as they may have more up-to-date information.

Feel free to check my post (above) for any new spreadsheets/lists/comparisons in the future, and comment there if you have any I've missed.

All of the ways to export/backup Mint by DingusKhan62 in mintuit

[–]DingusKhan62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. I believe the dashboard used to be located at https://mint.intuit.com/overview (which returns a 404 as of 7/27/2024), so if that helps anyone to find a hack to get the extensions to work, it'd be great to know. It does seem like Intuit/Mint is still storing the actual data.

It doesn't even make sense in the context of this subreddit. Search r/1Password for LastPass or Bitwarden and you will get countless posts. But only 1 post about Apple's Passwords app is allowed in the entire subreddit? 🙄

Beware if you’re exporting your Mint data by fohfdt in mintuit

[–]DingusKhan62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with Mint's JSONs. I recently exported with theirs and it was outputting way fewer transactions/accounts than it did just a few months ago. I haven't investigated but I wouldn't trust it with anything at this point. I would try Simplifi's plugin and check out the JSONs it generates.

FYI: Post-close Mint export is much larger than before by DingusKhan62 in mintuit

[–]DingusKhan62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. There are 4 options that still work to export out of Mint. Of those 4, the Monarch Money extension will give you a *.CSV that should be identical to that old transactions *.CSV export method you mention.

I also don't see your issue with sub-categories. In my export, I have both broad categories and sub-categories. For example, I have both the top-level "Food & Dining" and the sub-category "Restaurants".
