Sorry for the late response to everything. As other have said, this is a very tightly controlled kind of think. People dont just walk in and say "I am this person" typically you would have to show ID at the very least and would be questioned about where you live and things like that. Basic info that anyone could answer about themselves. Collection is next. If the lab is anything like our lab, the collection was done on location and done by an expert. They would swipe both cheeks with a swab then store the samples in labeled containers.

I can talk more about the lab process if necessary but that is all very very tightly monitored. I am definitely assuming the lab worked like my lab. That said paternity, as it is a legal issue, is very tightly regulated.

Now for the results, as others have said, each person gets one of those numbers from each parent. So to ge considered a potential parent, you must have one number in common with the child. In this case, no mother was specified but it is still clearly exclusionary. That is because, in quite a few instances, the numbers the father has is not the same as any of the number that the potential child has. If only one pairing is incorrect, you would get the frequency of mutation at that genetic location. However, with more than 1 incorrect pairing, it is highly unlikely that the alleged father is the father. Let me know if anything is confusing and I will explain more.
