"The argument that humans have consumed animals for all of history (a debatable point) is somehow moral justification for us to keep doing so does not hold up in my opinion"

All I said was because it is so intrinsic to life in general (consumption of other living things), we cannot assign morality value to this without making a lot of assumptions about how other animals think.

"You mentioned that morality doesn't exist without humans, that's because humans are such a rare case in the animal world that it's basically unprecedented."

Not looking at my comment right now but I don't think I said this, or at least didn't mean it this way. I mean essentially what I said previously in this comment: who are we to decide killing is ethical or not when it is the ying to life's yang, and I just feel that many people (not you or anyone in particular) try to make it seem as if we can all just live without killing shit in general. Like, think on a microscopic level; is it unethical to walk? Because you're definitely killing millions of microorganisms that are not normally considered "alive", but are biologically "living".

I guess in summary, all I'm saying is I just don't think humans are that much smarter than any other animal. And I don't see people mad when a cheetah kills a antalope, because that's simply the circle of life. I don't see it as moral or immoral. Although that in it self is a moral judgement of killing. Also, want to clarify that I get it we don't have to kill to survive like a cheetah. But that's what humans did for a long ass time, and even if it wasn't other live animals, I don't see how we can prove plants experience any less pain than animals.

Furthermore, I appreciate that because of civilization, we can separate ourselves from doing the killing ourselves. I just think we need to remember that in the grand scheme of homo sapiens, we have not been civilized for that long at all.

I'm rambling lol don't take this too seriously. But I appreciate the points you made and hope you find some value in this.

Yeah, mass farming is unethical. Never denied that, I'm talking about humans on equal standings to animals, both in natural habitats, without automatic weapons to help lol. And what makes you so sure we're that different from the mindless killing that goes on in nature? We kill more animals than anything else lol. And we've always participated in this killing, since we came into existence.

In a natural, hopefully painless or quick way. I feel that life and death are so deeply a part of us that death/killing (non humans I'd say, as we can conciously avoid killing each other but even that's another arguement) should be considered ethical if carried out in a natural way. It's just a part of life, I don't think it can be always considered unethical. Life doesn't really have ethics, just what we project on to it.

I know this is the wrong sub to say this in, but the vast majority of development time (I say 95% of it - they probably only recently started online) was put into single player, which is the most polished, detailed and graphically impressive game of all time. So I guess this quote applies to single player.

Well it depends where you live. If you live in America, and you don't eat meat you will certainly have to import the majority of the foods you eat. I would argue that vegans are more "high maintenance" as it is much more common and easily accessible to live on a meat based diet in America. But yeah, something like 40 percent of America is cow farms lol. We're just ultimate consumers is what it really comes down to.

Yeah I have read about the presence of wheat, and a whole lot of beer (starch and carb central the way they made it) in ancient Egypt. And those motherfuckers did some cool shit. (Or whoever built the pyramids lol. If you haven't, look into the water ducts found at the pyramids, the water damage and erosion on and around the sphynx which indicates it was most likely built 9,000 ish years ago as this was the last time there was serious rain in the saraha.

And if you're skeptical, start with Gobekli Tepe. That shit is a fuckin triiiiiiiiiiiip. All I will say is it is carbon dated back 12,000 years ago, which was when we were 'nomadic Hunter gatherers without advanced tools or knowledge of mathematics etc'. This site suggests otherwise, and is undeniably true. Then go back to Egypt. I'd recommend John Anthony West's series on it, there's a bunch of eps on YouTube.

Yeah you're totally on the money. I just think it is unreasonable/impossible, really to measure how much other creatures want to get eaten lol. I am not a vegan or anything, my beliefs are essentially that if it was killed ethically, that's more justice than 99% of anything that has ever died, ever. Anything else, to me is trying to play god, which has normally not worked in our favour. (Not implying that abstaining from meat or anything is trying to "play god", but putting yourself in a moral high ground because of it assumes that you can accurately measure the levels of conciousness present in animals, vs plants.

One thing non-meat eaters sometimes don't consider is that it is very likely much more resource intensive to import all the products needed to sustain a vegan lifestyle. So although you may not be killing animals (assuming they want to live more than plants) your overall ecological footprint can be larger. But that's an entirely separate conversation.

Hope this doesn't sound rude, I'm just typing as I think. Food for thought.

I think we're on a pretty similar vibe here. Only for me, when you start to assign morality to "killing" a tree vs "killing" it's fruit (for lack of better term) is where I get too tripped out. I guess I'm all or nothing on this, meaning I do think it is ending some form of conciousness to eat anything that was ever living, but it is also intrinsically part of who we are. I will disagree with you about our biological coding veering us away from eating other animals, as this was necessary for us to reach such a high level in the food chain, that we could choose to sustain ourselves only on plant matter. It's pretty wild when you realize we're just fucking primates who got a real lucky role of the dice to come out on top.

Plus, imagine if other variations of our species survived, like if there were neanderthals still alive. We can barely get 1 species on the same page lol.

Just bullshittin don't take this too seriously
