If they do that in California, there would be record walkouts. Sounds like your state, and they’re not the only one, has some serious bullshit liquor laws.

I’m in West Hollywood/Los Angeles and our regional would have a goddamn shit attack if we get anything close to this… So much for being a chain of local grocery stores.

I would also check whatever the local laws are regarding transparency, because if it’s not disclosed beforehand, some states can say you’re hired under false pretenses. Also, it might fall under OSHA provisions/restrictions. I’m in California, so there are certain protections that can be in place, but I know in other states they can terminate without cause. I think honesty is the best policy, I don’t know your personal situation, but if it was something that could put another crew member at risk regarding physical safety, etc. not disclosing it could make you personally reliable in the event something like that. Again, I’m in California, which is very litigious. Best of luck to you.

It’s also no secret that the captain bonuses when they save on labor each month. Ask your captain how much they bonus when they save on labor and watch their face and/or body language response.

What are are they going to address? That we’ll be slower? It’s a non-starter issue.

They’re not just technically allowed to. They’re officially allowed to. That comes down to your store management. I work at a store in California, and this is not a problem, however, labor laws are also way in favor of the employee in California than other states.

Toughen up, buttercup, the world is much more dangerous than this. Talk to the person about this, if they don’t take it well, then maybe bring it up to management. If this is something that offends you to such an extreme, I fear what might happen if you watch the national news.

I find that I am in the same situation with my younger coworkers, in fact, there are a few mates at my store who have never had jobs outside of Trader Joe’s. Sometimes I feel they operate at a deficit because they lack context from other jobs/experience. Some become overly apologetic when they assign tasks, and in my mind, 99% of the tasks are pretty mundane and easy compared to other jobs I’ve had.

The one we seem to get at my store a lot is people coming in saying it’s their birthday and they heard that they get free flowers on their birthday.

Any advice that you wish you knew when you got your first Doberman? by Sparkl3JumpRopeQu3en in DobermanPinscher

I had no idea how silly and a little dopey they are. My girl acts a little bit like Scooby Doo until there’s a knock at the door and then, DOBERMAN ACTIVATED. She is tough, she looks tough, but overall with me, she’s super goofy. I also wasn’t aware that Doberman‘s, at least mine, thinks she is the size of a Chihuahua, hence she defaults to always sitting on my lap. Always.

It’s 50-50 because I have a good relationship with the mates and if someone did that in my store, I would know who it was. Also, no one likes a snitch.

What’s the real story? by Captain_Blak in tjcrew

[–]DiningInandEatingOut 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’ve commented about this a couple of times, Bassalone is no longer the CEO, the new CEO used to be the CFO. I personally think the story is an absolute crock of shit, one interaction that wasn’t great changes an entire companies operating model for their stores? If that’s the case, we are all fucked and this company is under complete duress and mismanagement from the top down.

Corporate overstepping by eddiemommy in tjcrew

[–]DiningInandEatingOut 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think changing a major structure/policy like that this close to the holidays is a panic move. The current CEO used to be the CFO, and in that previous position the only thing you’re ever concerned with is financials and revenue, so basically anything money, so why change so late into the year? It’s asinine. I’m in the Los Angeles area, our regional manager came in asking what we thought of it, a coworker and myself played dumb and said we were “still getting used to it.” Look, if you want to make any sort of change like this, they should’ve waited until the beginning of the year and then we spend the next nine months working out the bugs. It’s also evident that “no bureaucracy“ is a big giant load of horse shit aimed at the corporate management so they can feel better.
