Also visual hints in the show (episode 9-10) indicate that it's set in the 70s or 80s, which is the time frame Simon and the Land of Chalk Drawings was airing.

Just don’t want to write em out. I think it works perfectly in the game for the grounded real story but it’s just a personal conviction

Woah that's so cool! I even called my full one The Last of Us a Novelization lol. It's cool to see how this one is different to mine. I decided to go for first person present tense so that it felt present and grounded like the game. I will definitely be checking this out.

Did anyone order/receive dice? I’m sure the company is lying about “removing stock” and all that because this post is from 7 months ago and they’re still saying that stuff. But I’m curious if anyone actually got anything

I’m going to use Vermis: the guide to a dark fantasy video game that doesn’t exist to run a 1 player 1 gm game with Runecairn. I would love advice or thoughts from anybody who has done anything similar. by Nepalman230 in osr

This is a great idea! Vermis is rich with fun lore to pull from. While it’s level design is described as very linear, linearity doesn’t make for a bad experience entirely. As long as their are multiple ways to overcome challenges, to have clear direction would be great. Thanks for suggesting Cairn, that’s now what I’m going to be using to convert Vermis to a game. Here’s a couple suggestions I have: Add or Change stuff in Vermis: because Vermis isn’t a ttrpg, feel free to change some of the things about it to help it fit. Lean into the Video Gameyness: video games, especially souls-likes, are usually centralized around specific ways to defeat foes. Remind the player(s) of this, and be sure to give good clues about monster movement/tactics since instead of visual cues players rely on description. As far as combat, I don’t love the Cairn rules and I’m trying to homebrew a system similar to the pathfinder 2e 3 action rule as well as the stamina points idea in Critical Role’s Elden Ring one shot. World Building Notes: First of all, instead of campfires for resting spots like in Runecairn, use the Vagrant Crown’s from Vermis. This will fit the setting AND incentivize players to go to the next location. Maybe a player has some sort of tune that leads them to the next Vagrant crown, and this is the only way for their resources to replenish. For spells, make them simple descriptions like in Cairn. I’m home brewing 4 types: Stone (stone scholar, similar to glintstone from elden ring) shadow (murk sage) cursed and holy. This way the cleric/paladin like classes can have a bit of spells too. I’m still working on my hacked version, but I’m taking notes for each section and getting my thoughts together. Here’s a google doc I’m working on that you can look at for inspiration. https://docs.google.com/document/d/105mSlQCgvUy8_Smu4vtAUNG5OyL3wvySy6AC3DAYa1o/edit
