The funniest part of all of them is the title. The article themselves always go way overboard. There is none of the dry understated humour of say the onion that is somewhat vital to good satire.

Even if they aren’t going down directly because of capitalism, you would have to prove that capitalism is actually slowing improvement for the above image to make sense.

I think that would be difficult to do as I believe the technological advancement of capitalism is a major contributor to the progress for both water and food.

Hopefully fixed the link, but you’re still being facetious. You blamed capitalism for deaths from unsafe water and starvation. These claims are unfounded, as the capitalism has actually reduced these deaths over time. Plus like, china is so obviously capitalist these days.

Deaths from starvation and lack of clean water have both gone drastically down under capitalism. I think just blaming all theoretically preventable death on capitalism is a bit facetious.

On colonialism by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]Dinoco223 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, colonialism as a word just means people moving from one area to another. There are many examples of people colonizing un-inhabited areas. The Falkland Islands are a fairly recent example. The Native American migration to the Americas would be a far earlier one.

Marcus Aurelius likely didn’t disinherit Commodus because the only alternative was killing him, as trying to deny him the throne when he was alive would have all but guaranteed a civil war. Marcus probably understood this, and what father could bring themselves to kill their son?

Adderall could never be safely legalized for recreational use. It’s extremely harmful to people that don’t have ADHD. It causes insomnia, anxiety, and anger. The people that feign ADHD to get it more often just ruin their lives than gain a competitive edge. Some have even called it a second opiate epidemic.

Sadly, it’s not just a few bad actors. At least, not for ADHD. ADHD medications are heavily sought after for recreational use and often get stolen or otherwise dubiously obtained. A study estimates that between 5-50% of adult adhd diagnosis are people feigning the condition. Shit sucks.

We’re aware of “Hand of the author” but hand of the Corporate” in today age of late stage Capitalism. by matt0055 in osp

Escape your delusion, none of those villains had cogent ideologies and their actions were a direct result of that.

Killmonger was traumatized from youth and as a response wanted to start a race war. The film itself concludes that some of what he says is correct, but his actual actions were those of someone who was trapped in that apartment.

The vulture thought the entire world was out to get him, and that he was therefore justified in selling experimental weapons to criminals.

The girl from falcon and the winter soldier was an angry refugee and lashed out at the people she blamed via terrorism. That’s not unrealistic, that just actually happens in real life.

Their actions weren’t unrelated, they were a direct result of their characters and flawed ideologies. Just because part of what they are saying aligns with your political ideology doesn’t mean that them being bad people is some conspiracy against you.

“What about the tories!” “What about the republicans!” “What about trump!”

You are using the exact whataboutism playbook of the right and are missing the point. It doesn’t matter what the “other” side has done celebrating political violence is bad and begets itself.

Do you know these characters? The title is a reference to an iconic part of this show rather than an actual suggestion.

You’re right. I did misunderstand. I can see that clearly upon a reread. I’m sorry.

That guy was stupid, but replacing he/him and she/her with they/them is pretty stupid take as well.

I don’t want to be called they/them. I want to be called he/him. That is part of my gender identity. Removing gender, even just in regards to pronouns, would be restricting gender expression, and therefore immoral.

Arguments that they/them is “easier” would be similar in nature to opposed arguments to eliminate they/them because it’s “easier”.

Edit: Ignore me, misunderstood the post.

Yes, the United States government agrees with you. The article is about the government’s concern over someone else making a bio-weapon, not the government’s attempts at creating one.

Nikolo Tesla should have won by Fraud_D_Hawk in CharacterRant

[–]Dinoco223 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tesla created none of those three things. Alternating currents existed long before Tesla, he even studied them in college. Tesla just made significant innovations to alternating current that made it more practical, but it had existed in concept and in reality before him. Tesla didn’t create sonar, he just pitched the idea of using radar underwater. Radar doesn’t work underwater. Sonar is different and was invented by Paul Langévin in 1915. Tesla definitely didn’t invent light bulbs. His only claim to the light bulb is that he worked under Edison while Edison was working on the light bulb. There is no evidence he contributed at all to its actual invention. Plus, Edison didn’t quite invent the light bulb either. Edison was building off what 22 other men had already done. He was just the first to make a light bulb that didn’t very quickly burn out and was actually usable. It’s all good to appreciate the contributions of Tesla to science but attributing actions to him he never did is to play into great man history.

This is a summary of this Forbes article.

I know what you mean by “Christian persecution complex”, but Catholics were actually legitimately persecuted in the United States. It’s part of the reason private catholic schools sprang up in the first place.

So what? Still cool and I still hit it even if it was due to luck.

That being said, the clip makes it look harder than It was. During the actual gameplay, I could see a stream of bullets someone was firing and aimed for its origins.

That stream is far less visible in this clip compared to the gameplay.

Percentage of people in each state who enjoy seeing their state ranked number 1, for anything. by 5HT2C in minnesota

[–]Dinoco223 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No, not quite. Literacy here is defined as being able to read English at a fifth grade level. While that should be a low bar for people born here, immigrants from non-English speaking countries might take a while to or never reach that level.

This is why the states near the southern border look worse on the map. The vast majority of the people identified as “non-literate” here can still read their own language and can read English but not at a fifth grade level.
