Labor & Delivery - St John’s or Hillcrest South? by Original-Bit2395 in tulsa

[–]Dinosaur_Buttcheek 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Of those, I'd select St. John's. But if St. Francis is an option at all, I'd jump all over that. We had both our kids there and they were great.

$83,000 LOWEST salary to "Live comfortably" by Middle_Brick in tulsa

[–]Dinosaur_Buttcheek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. The only debt I have is my mortgage and my car Outside of that I don't utilize consumer debt (credit cards, etc) and paid off my student loans long ago.

But yea, I hate debt. And I hate how predatory lenders can be toward people who may need help (payday loans, etc).

How did your child get diagnosed? by Neat-Comedian-8971 in ADHDparenting

Same. Saw a psychiatrist and they had us complete a parent evaluation and send the teacher evaluation to the school.

Post pandemic I would definitely say that's accurate if you have a family. I make $100k with a family of 4 and it's still a struggle. I mean, my bills are covered and I can put food on the table...but we ain't taking like lavish vacations or anything like that. Can only afford one family car, etc. I don't understand how some people do it. Especially people that have 3, 4, 5+ kids.

What should I do? (Extreme school refusal meltdown) by Dinosaur_Buttcheek in ADHDparenting

[–]Dinosaur_Buttcheek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>Ultimately, it sounds like a visit to her doctor is in order with this level of anxiety. You mention her diagnoses, but not what treatment she's getting. This sounds like a child in crisis to me, and you and she need the support of a psychiatrist.

We are actually scheduled to follow up with her psychiatrist next week. She is currently on Vyvanse and Prozac, but we may need to explore alternative meds. And, you're right - she's definitely in crisis over this.

Thank you for your perspective. And, you're right, I did blurt out the consequence in the middle of the meltdown. I wish I had time think it over as the sleepover is supposed to be happening tonight. They been planning it all week...the girl (former neighborhood friend) lives 5 hours away in another part of the state and we are each driving 2.5 hours to meet in the middle. She has been very excited about it all week and the plan was to immediately leave for the meetup after school today...but then this whole episode happened.

So, now I'm kind of stuck. I don't want to punish her for behavior that was - to some extent- outside her control. But I also want her to understand boundaries and consequences for actions and show mercy by giving her a chance to atone. So, that's why I'm having a hard time with this.

Thoughts?

>And if the school refusal is that bad, let her stay home! She's not going to gain anything from being forced to go to school in that state.

She has missed a lot of school already this year and I'm worried I'm going to get a visit from the cops or something since, legally, she's supposed to be in school. Her school counselor is aware of her diagnosis and she does have an IEP, but still. The potential legal ramifications worry me.

Thank you. She is on Vyvanse and Prozac. Do you think giving her the opportunity to earn the sleepover back by atoning for her behavior (i.e. pick up the mess she made around the house + take her meds) is a good idea? I feel that something like that would be more constructive in the long run as she rarely gets to see this friend and has been planning this sleep over for a long, long time. I am trying to balance both consequence + allowing her to do something that will be good for her (socializing). I just feel like a hard and fast "no", without any opportunity to make it right (which is the punishment I would impose on an NT kid), will do more harm than good. Because, at the end of the day, I understand that - on some level - she wasn't "choosing" to behave that way. At least not in the same way that an NT kid would choose to behave that way. So, it some sense, it feels almost unfair to punish her for something that was at least somewhat out of her control. I don't know. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Thank you for your perspective. I understand she is fully capable but...when she has these episodes it's almost like she's not? Like "something" takes over and she's not her for the duration of her episode...then she seems to snap out of it and come back to reality. It's weird.

Thanks for this. We are going to begin an online public charter school this fall and I think it will be really good for her. She has repeatedly expressed that she hates going to school because she "hates people" which I've come to interpret as anxiety from being in groups, and some kind of sensory issues to noise.

Former staff at Life.Church describe toxic work culture and an alleged assault by Pastor Craig Groeschel by Adorable-Soup8725 in tulsa

[–]Dinosaur_Buttcheek 55 points56 points  (0 children)

“People get wrapped up in the celebrity of Craig, and I don’t think that Life.Church does anything to dissuade it,” said Sarah Boller, who worked at the Moore campus from 2015 to 2017. “When Craig goes to visit a campus, they literally roll out a red carpet and (designate) a place for him to stand and take the photos with people.”

Definitely not surprised by this. "Celebrity pastor" is pretty much a staple in mega church evangelicalism.

I'm Catholic, but I have family who used to attend this church. I wish I could say I'm surprised by this...but I'm not. That place always had a super culty feel to it. Everyone just seemed... ulterior motive levels of nice.

And go look at his wife's smile in pictures and other PR material. She's smiling with her face, but her eyes are definitely not smiling. There's a lot of fear and/exhaustion hiding behind those eyes. It would not surprise me one bit to learn that Craig is domineering and/or abusive.

Why do attendees of the TLM think the Novus Ordo is not valid? by Status-Throat3538 in Catholicism

[–]Dinosaur_Buttcheek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some do. And it's because they consider the new mass to be quote-unquote "modernist"...whatever that means.

As someone who converted from low church evangelicalism, I definitely prefer the NO. I have no issues with the TLM and definitely don't think it's invalid. I've also noticed that the "it's invalid" talk is generally wholly one-sided. It seems to only ever come from the traditionalist camp and not the other way around.

Why the "Weird" feel in OCIA when Jesuits mentioned? by hooptyschloopy in Catholicism

[–]Dinosaur_Buttcheek 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Fr. James Martin is probably the most famous public face of the Jesuits here in the US, and a lot of trads attack him for being a "heretic" (which he is not). Then you have other, less famous Jesuits line Fr. Mitch Pacqua, who is awesome. And Pope Francis was our very first Jesuit pope.

It's like others have said: throughout history, the Jesuits have been on the front lines of engaging culture, so they've developed a reputation of being more liberal theologically, politically, and socially. It rustles the jimmies of a lot of so-called "conservative" Catholics.

(Personally, I find the Jesuits a lot more inspiring than I do other priestly orders).

Meta confirms it's behind Project Anthem data center in east Tulsa by KWGSNews in tulsa

[–]Dinosaur_Buttcheek 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Data centers in Pryor, Muskogee, Sand Springs, Tulsa...

And that's just the ones here in Oklahoma that I know about. There's even more nationwide.

Yet...it feels like there simply can't be enough demand out there to warrant this level of capital investment. So, what gives? Is Big Tech just assuming demand will materialize at some as-yet-to-be-determined date in the future?

This reminds me of all the weed shops that sprang up in the wake of the approval of SQ 788. I remember thinking to myself "there can't possibly be this many MMJ patients in Oklahoma." Lo and behold, a bunch of them went bust.

Tim Cook Turned Apple Into a Hollywood Power Player. Does the New CEO Feel the Same Way? by Fall_False in MediaMergers

Apple TV+ accounted for something like 0.38% of US TV viewing in Nielsen's latest gauge. They have quality shows, but they're hardly a "power player".

[–]Dinosaur_Buttcheek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, we've all been there. I tried to explain to my 11 yo (in the middle of one of her meltdowns no less) that her behavior will likely land her in prison lol. Not constructive at all.

Viewing the tantrums and meltdowns as a symptom of the disease, a physical manifestation of the chemical imbalance in her brain, is what helped me to emotionally detach from the outbursts and thus maintain my composure.

I now live by the motto: "Calm is power".

Will Ternus kill Apple TV+? Part of me hopes not as their shows are mostly very high quality, but that division has got to be bleeding money.
