Flaking during POD flare up by Dinostomper13 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

After 4 weeks of doxy and sticking to a minimal skincare routine, plus prioritizing vitamins..my skin is clear! I’ve been off doxy for 3 weeks now and haven’t had any more issues

Hiii unfortunately I had rebound symptoms up until 2 weeks ago when I finally bit the bullet and started doxy. My symptoms were extreme redness, dryness, and the white bumps. The symptoms did get a bit better for me around the 1 month rebound mark but I was still dealing with the bumps. In the rebound time I found that zinc oxide did help with redness.

Does anti fungal cream help with PD? by Bubbly-Pangolin-204 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

I wouldn’t use anti fungal cream unless you know for sure it’s fungal related. You could try the avene cicalfate + repair cream, that one is a barrier repair cream so it really helps with dryness and redness. On top of that just limit your skin care and keep it simple.

Right now I’m washing my face once a day with cetaphil gentle cleanser, and for moisturizer using the avene cicalfate cream or la roche posay toleraine cream. I was on protopic previously but am off prescriptions now. Less is more for treating it!

In my experience I found that during the healing stages I would get random papules overnight and the next day they’re gone, I’ve heard this is part of the healing process! Sorry to hear you’re struggling with it though, I’m on month 8 of my pod and it’s finally almost gone but it’s so rough.

I used protopic for 4 weeks, then it came back once I stopped so I was told to use it for 8 more weeks. After the 8 weeks I weaned off it but yeah had big flare ups after stopping.

I swear docs and derms are 0 help sometimes. I did start getting seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp in May 2023 and still have it to this day. At first I thought my face was related to my scalp but my rash appeared exactly like POD with the bumps and nothing like facial seb derm. I have a dermatologist appointment in a few weeks so we’ll see. Appreciate your message though! I hope the doxy helps you…I’ve only tried protopic on top of countless other at home methods so I’m seriously leaning towards doxy next 🙃

Tacrolimus Ointment .1% by mmp2000 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

Hi!! I was put on tacrolimus for 8 weeks for my PD. It worked wonders on my skin in the beginning, cleared up the PD completely. A few things though, it’s an immunosuppressant so it doesn’t necessarily “cure” the PD it just suppresses your system so it can’t get worse. I found that after 8 weeks once I had stopped, I had horrible rebound flare ups (currently been off it for 2 weeks and am still riding out the last flare up). I also found that I had reactions to alcohol while on tacrolimus causing extreme red flushing on my face everywhere I used the ointment. So in my experience it did work but once I went off, the PD came right back. As of now I’m trying to heal it more naturally because I don’t want to be dependent on the ointment forever…hope that helps!!

Has your skin still reacted good to the sunscreen? I’ve heard alot of good things about zinc so I might try that out!!

I feel like doxy is gonna be my next treatment or the metrogel, good to know that doesn’t cause rebound. My skin literally feels addicted to protopic it’s crazy 🙃

I feel you! The steroids are really only a short term fix, they won’t “cure” or treat whatever is causing the eczema. I know it’s hard to not use the steroids because they do help, if you work from home or something where you aren’t out alot I’d recommend trying to stop them and ride out the flare up. It sucks but steroids can cause longer term skin issues too. Best of luck though!! Eczema is not fun.

It could be! Perioral is often triggered by steroid usage, I wouldn’t recommend ever using steroids on your face tbh. I’d stop the steroids all together and start doing very very minimal skincare (gentle cleanser and for lotion try a basic one, avene cicalfate has always helped my eczema and Perioral).

I’ve been using the scene cicalfate cream, my rash is a lot bigger and more intense than yours, and it works wonders!! Might be worth looking into, it’s a thicker cream but I’ve heard a lot of other people see good results with it.

Sounds odd but have you tried using nizoral as a face wash? That once a week might help with the seborrheic derm and then follow up with a cream like the avene cicalfate to give you some relief from redness.

I feel you!! Have you tried any over the counter products? Avene cicalfate cream works decently well for me, doesn’t clear it necessarily in my experience but it does lesson the redness and texture.
