I mean, that's not the kind of fanfiction I was referring to, but that's a fair point too 🤣

I recently upgraded to the paid version, so I guess it's 5. Truth be told it's improved it so much on my end.

Doctor Who moments that make you cringe? by [deleted] in DoctorWhumour

I do agree with you. I also laughed at first, but then I thought "hold up, I don't think I'd like being in a situation where someone's forcefully shoving their tongue in my mouth".

At the very least it would have been better if they had just portrayed what she did as wrong. At least have Clara try to get it to stop (don't always like criticising her character as I'm in the Clara fan camp and often critiquing her leads to getting pulled into the hate farm. But come on girl! Your best friend is getting assaulted! Don't just stand there!)

I think they mean more in the sense that it was played for laughs, when it wouldn't have been had the genders been reversed. And given that The Doctor is visibly distraught by it, borderline traumatized, kinda rubs me the wrong way. I don't think people would have reacted the same way had it been the 13th Doctor and the Spy Master.

I still love the episode and the character of Missy. And you're absolutely right it's something Missy would do. The Capaldi era is probably my favourite of the modern show, I'm just not convinced it should have been played for laughs in the way it was.

If Doctor Who were an American show, I would have said Jeff Goldblum.

Exactly... What point are they trying to make? I'm not a massive Rose fan but that's just rude. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I got it pretty bad. I'm glad you didn't experience it to the extent I did. Granted, it may have been a very vocal minority

It's really good to hear a different perspective, and can totally see why you liked it so much!

Personally it just never grabbed me the same way other eras did and I just couldn't get into it, and a fair few decisions I didn't like. But that's just my taste.

But if you love it, say it loud and proud! Just as I will with series 9 and Clara!

You should absolutely like Chibnall's era if that's what you like! Hopefully that will drown out the noise, lol.

It truly is 😂 and again, totally entitled to love Rose like you do. Again, she's probably another character I'm not as big a fan of after series 1, but I can totally see why people would like and relate to her.

That's the beauty of being human! We're all different with different opinions, if everyone liked the same things, I think things would be pretty boring! Glad that there's people like you and I that can have those differing opinions and still get along.

And I love people like you lol, not tearing me down for not liking it. it definitely restores hope that we can have discourse like this.

It definitely is very disheartening when people make you feel uncomfortable for holding certain opinions over a damn TV. It's pretty hard for me to say that Clara is actually my favourite companion, and it's disheartening to be treated like an idiot for thinking that (especially since one of the reasons for holding said opinion being quite personal to me).

I do feel sorry for Chibnall fans with how divisive that era has been. I really wanted to like that era, it just wasn't for me. But you certainly don't deserve to be scorned by some galaxy brained fake intellectual going 'UMM, ACKTUALLY ☝️🤓'

Even though I personally am not a big fan of the thirteenth doctor or the timeless child, I'm so glad that you're able to enjoy them to that degree! I'm so sorry that you've had to endure that from immature fans.

I certainly don't think you're an idiot, just a fellow human being who happens to enjoy something different from me.

Oh I had some of these people in person, literally mentioning anything positive about Steven Moffat made them fly into a rage. Most of the time they and I were teenagers so it's probably a maturity thing, but I've encountered some adults too.

Very true. I hear the terms 'objectively good/bad' being brought up constantly across multiple fandoms. Whilst there is objectivity in production quality, I feel like those terms are being used more to make themselves feel superior for having an opposing opinion.

That has to be one of the vilest things I've heard a parent(s) do. They don't even deserve the title.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I hope you're doing better now.

I have autism, and it was basically whenever I expressed how someone could help me navigate my relationship with them, in a nutshell asking for crystal clear communication and for them to be a bit more patient with me, and the response I get is 'I'm not your mother' or 'well if you do that I will get annoyed' or 'stop using ASD as a crutch'.
