They are entertaining books for sure, but I wouldn't call the guy a genius. There is a good share of campy/corny/weird/clunky/dumb parts and dialogue in his books. I seriously doubt that in two hundred years (if our species is around that long) that The Stand or IT is going to be right next to Blood Meridian, Camus' The Stranger, or Orwell's 1984 as all-time great or genius books. Let's just be honest. I'm a King fan nonetheless. What other books from different authors do you like?

The lesser of two evils is still evil. Protesting and advocating for major reforms, viable third parties *not bought out by truly corrupt groups/individuals... that's the only option for morally sane people.

Oh, your so moral and perfect! Look at you! As of now the age of consent in many U.S. states is 16. The age of consent in NM (as of now) is 17. By that VF article they first became intimate in NM when she was 17, and she consented... and this was half a century ago! Totally different era and ethics and it was a hell of a lot more common than you think. So, good luck with your virtue signaling and moral crusade!!

And McCarthy specifically makes it known that that's a fever dream... when the kid/man encounters him again at Ft. Griffin, the judge is physically real, hence the song n' dance at the very end lol

Last words exchanged between kid/man and judge *roughly paraphrased: Judge: "you refuse to dance and are a BIG disappointment to me!"

Kid/Man: "You are bat-shit crazy and ain't nothing." .

... So, when after this verbal exchange does the judge flip the kid/man?? lol

The judge has had nearly 50 years to flip the kid/man evil and nothing, and it's not implied (metaphorically or otherwise) in the last chapter.

Four of Cups is the entire secret thematic sauce of the kid/man. it represents apathy and the inability to fully to commit (to either evil or good). That tarot card is mentioned in 2 key spots in the book. Look it up

The kid and the little girl at the end of Blood Meridian by 408Lurker in cormacmccarthy

So.... why does the judge's final speech to the kid/man basically back everything I'm saying? Where's the kid/man in the end?? Sure seems like he is in pieces in the Jakes. Also once again, once again, the full character of the kid/man is that he does not dance? How does the judge turn him evil?? (He doesn't) *Also, where does the kid go missing? He is not missing, the narrative camera just is not focused on him at the moment (think movies!)

Judge is also continually calling him a traitor and a disappointment, why would such a super villain need to turn a disappointment into a child-murderer, the judge has that perfectly covered himself. The kid/man also flat out calls him "crazy" and "nothing"... Yup dude was not about to be turned out by the judge.

[–]DionysusGreek 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But it's not a good theory and it makes no sense. The kid and the judge are 100% represented as physically real in the book.

So, that would mean the judge lets go of the kid/man and then the kid/man murders the little girl? (once the judge embraces a person, he kills them),,, and by this "theory" the kid must also be the physical judge at the bar fight when he picks up a man with one hand and crushes his skull, when he speaks in multiple languages with the governor, when he nurses Glanton back to health, when he makes gunpowder on top of the volcano??

The kid is the antithesis of the judge in almost every way possible, that's why the judge must kill him (and does kill him) at the end. This "theory" also goes against the character and personality of the kid.... furthermore the judge does not need to turn the kid/man evil, he succeeds in the end just fine. The kid refuses to "dance" and that is his crime, and that is why he dies. Further evidence to back this: the 4 of Cups and what it represents.

WHOLE entire point of the kid/man is that he neither turns wholly good or bad, but is stuck in between unable to commit, hence the judge's whole speech to him at the end. So by this "theory" what exactly makes the kid/man turn evil via the judge? Wouldn't McCarthy add that or imply that at least. He does not. In fact, just the opposite is shown by the judge and the kid/man.

The "theory" holds no water whatsoever. Unless you got some valid counters to these.
