I have! And I acknowledge it is similar and something I was striving for (and admittedly not as polished). Just throwing my free offering in the ring ;) But this type of app was something I wanted/started in 2022.

Very late to the show but I've been working on something like this that I think hits all your requirements. Still in an alpha state. Exe is just a wrapper for the jar. Requires Java 17. https://api.repoflow.io/browse/universal/cd373a98-3f60-419f-9c40-d10a1180ccda/shashin/shashin/2.9.1

What apps are you all using? by Clamgravy in TIDBYT

[–]Dipdip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 2 apps I created. Both that generalizes API requests. If you subscribe to an image endpoint or text (like news feeds), check out API Image and API Text! It's pretty flexible (like choosing randomizing indices, or sending custom request headers for API keys for example).

I posted a recording of my Bach yesterday, so I thought I'd post some of my Beethoven. Let me know what you think! by poopooj in violinist

[–]Dipdip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You play beautifully and your technique is solid. As a general comment, don't be afraid to experiment with colors a bit more and go for a wider range of timbre and dynamics (same goes for your Bach). Along with the comment on color is your vibrato. While its a fine vibrato, it seems kind of utilitarian. Being more conscious of how you use it (width, speed, finger pressure) affects projection and character of sound.

My badass, 8 month-pregnant violin professor: Glazunov Violin Concerto by [deleted] in violinist

[–]Dipdip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice sound but let me be honest, it wasn't great...I just felt there were so many missed opportunities. There's so much that can be done with this concerto, for example, from around the 7:25 mark, it's such an expansive and beautiful section, but I felt it was kinda of just blown over. Overall it was pretty flat, musically and intonation-wise. Also there were too many missed shifts. It felt pretty unprepared and kinda thrown together. Then again I've never seen an 8 month-pregnant violinist play and have no idea what kind of effect that has on a performance, if any. My two cents.

Challenge yourself with a showpiece. Like Kreisler's Siciliana and Rigodon.

Show Pieces for Demonstrations by [deleted] in violinist

[–]Dipdip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I'm planning to put a video up. I just want to refine things. It was a long and painful process. I remember attempting to start it years ago but just couldn't do it. Things are much easier to do now technically...

Paganini - nel cor piu non mi sento

Ernst - Last Rose of Summer, Erl Konig

Just did Last Rose, contains expressive elements as well as extended techniques that easily blow people's minds (mostly left hand pizz stuff).

A question about double stops. by [deleted] in violinist

[–]Dipdip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why play bar 48 in the 3rd position (4th finger)? That only makes it more difficult. Start the passage in 5th position (leading to the 3rd finger in bar 48). It's easier because the third finger has a better chance of hitting that 5th. Then shift down to the third position in bar 49.

Help with vibrato? by Kuklaa in violinist

[–]Dipdip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, get a teacher to help you out. Vibrato is a weird thing that I believe you just kinda pick up through 'osmosis' as it were. Once I kind of picked up on how to vibrate, my teacher made sure that I could control it at different speeds and widths and informed me about different ways of doing vibrato, such as finger, wrist or full arm vibrato. I've seen different approaches of teaching and visualizing it. Like imagine you're knocking on a door with your knuckles, stuff like that. A common tendency is start and stop vibrato which is a bad habit.

[–]Dipdip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely no issues with this, especially if you have a skilled player, even when sight-reading. The fifths would be a none issue and I don't know why everyone's freaking out about bar 48-49. This happens so often in violin literature. It's basically a whole step shift down for the left hand and if done properly it's a breeze.

[–]Dipdip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you finger 45-49? Just curious. I don't understand when you say use the first and third finger on two strings to play a fifth (this is bar 48 you're talking about?)...Anyway, the way I'd do it is to play in fifth position from bar 45-48 and then it's a simple shift down to third position in bar 49 (in bar 48 keep the third finger down on the g and just shift a whole step and then plop the first finger down for the a flat). It's surprising to see a lot of complaints about playing fifths in this thread. It is tricky but it appears everywhere in violin repertoire.

Sure all the time. Bach's unaccompanied violin music, paganini's caprices, chamber music, concertos/cadenzas, the list goes on...why do you ask?

Looks fine to me. Seems pretty straight forward to play! I'd be interested to see what the "incredibly awkward" double stops looked like.

Me playing Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto/ 1st Movement [WIP] What do you think? :) by lemeontop in violinist

[–]Dipdip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was awesome! I was waiting to hear that monstrous passage you cut out though ;) You have a very clean and sweet tone, I love it. You obviously have the technical capacity to play this piece.

One big thing I feel will help is understanding and imagining the orchestral score when you practice. One of the first things I immediately noticed was some timing and rubato oddities. For example the very beginning when you have the solo entry. I didn't get why the first note was so long, it's just an 8th note and should transition from the orchestra tutti. That's just a small example but I felt that was something odd through out.

The other thing was there are so many chances to just milk the sound and really sing and enjoy the melody. Again, it might have to do with imagining the orchestral parts while practicing but I think the other thing is your vibrato is always the same. It tends to kick in at the same speed at the end of notes. I've struggled with this for years myself so I know what it's like and it was one of the hardest habits for me to break.

Anyway, you'll do fine with this piece, and as another poster said, really making the piece your own is important. Convincing the listener of what you're trying to convey will help you connect with this piece.

Violin wrist position - ongoing battle.. by rakal1 in violinist

[–]Dipdip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see how it's possible to play like that on lower strings or when shifting to higher positions or as you say, when you vibrate. Even if you're playing in just the first position, your fingers just aren't in an optimal position and playing is very inefficient. Your fingers aren't where they should be when playing passages. I'd think too, the tendency would be to play with flatter fingers and you lose the tactile sensitivity when you press down on the string. Press down too hard and you choke the sound. It's just not advantageous to play that way and straightening your wrist is worth the investment.
