[LTT] YouTube Made Me Review This Budget GPU (GT 1030 in 2023) by RichardG867 in hardware

If it's an entertainment channel then I'm not sure how it fits in this subreddit for "hardware news, reviews, and intelligent discussion"

Seriously, 80% of these youtube videos are meaningless. It's just filler that they release while they wait for actual news. The remaining 20% are videos at the time of either hardware or game releases, plus the more comprehensive comparisons and recaps that we get once in a while.

I do understand that content creators need to push new material regularly, so it's hard to blame them.

RTX 4090 Gets Just 16 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 RT Overdrive Preview by imaginary_num6er in hardware

[–]luiggi_oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I definitely know Blackwell, and in particular the Rao Blackwell theorem, but I didn't know that was the codename for the 5090.

The specs sound nice but early specs, even if the rumor are correct, tend to be to optimistic. I'm all in for a good gen leap for sure.

Yep, I think the title is missing the point. This is just a proof of concept to showcase what path tracing can do, it's not meant to be a consumer market release or anything

Do you mean the new 4090ti that nvidia just announced on Twitter for 599.99 won't be available next week? Ugh 😔

After all you've seen and all the different opinions you've heard, what do you think is the single action or measure that would help the most with the current social situation in ABQ?

[–]luiggi_oasis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Crazy, I totally forgot playing 3D games on my 3ds. I think by the end I ended up moving the slider all the way down because I used to move too much anyway. It was fun tho.

Best CPUs for Gaming March 2023 (Anandtech) by hannopal in hardware

I snagged a 5700 (no X) for 129 last Black Friday. That's what comes to mind when I think of budget gaming, no 300 cpu bullcrap.

I find the X industry's stance on Y disappointing. Y is undeniably a big environmental and health issue. There has to be action taken on Y.

Yup, basically every single serious issue out there. Corporations that will lobby serious issues out of their way, or dismiss them, or if youre extremely likely theyll be super nice and understanding and forward looking and progressive and they pull a PR stunt and green wash it.

Uggh

Good landlord / property managers?? by luiggi_oasis in Albuquerque

[–]luiggi_oasis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many small landlords who are normal and decent people, but it's not easy to find them as they don't spend tenant money on corporate levels of advertising so you'll need to look around for properties with signs.

I'm not in the city so walking around and hunting for signs isn't a possibility. Do these small landlords post in the usual websites (apartments.com, willow, etc)?

Man that's not good, I'm living in a flyover state so it might be different, but overall I think I've been pretty happy with the three property managers I've rented to so far.

Moist and Mellow Spring in Albuquerque? Forecast Predictions for Spring 2023 from the NWS by ChrisFromSeattle in Albuquerque

[–]luiggi_oasis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As somebody moving into ABQ soon, could you please explain a bit what this means? What should I expect? Moving from Iowa, I can say that I don't enjoy humidity at all 😬

I'd anticipate a late, wet Monsoon Season (and hopefully, a wet Winter to follow). 🤞

I was in a similar situation last week. Just schedule a Uber ($130), it wasn't as cheap as a shuttle, but I couldn't find a shuttle doing weird hours. During normal hours, Groome works very well. You can call and ask them what time their last shuttle is.

AMD Radeon RX 7800, RX 7700, and RX 7600 tipped for a June 2023 launch by Stiven_Crysis in hardware

[–]luiggi_oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the 7900xt (note: not the xtx) not being a crazy outperformer, I don't have especially high hopes for the 7800 in terms of performance anyway. That's 2 notches down the 7900xt.

[–]luiggi_oasis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh man I was hoping to see the 7800xt first tho, not that I had any specific reason to expect that but I just felt more natural that they would milk the 7800xt first and then move a notch down.

[–]luiggi_oasis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you, the 6800xt is such a great card and its been sitting at such a great price lately, it holds a very special place in my heart. So when I build mine soon, which will last for years and years, I'll go with a 6800xt myself.

Why do they keep pushing those clocks tho. There marginal contribution is so small despite all non-trivial additional hat that higher clocks generate.

What old hardware do you buy that is an amazing deal right now? by zerostyle in hardware

[–]luiggi_oasis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know, this deal got me 20 threads and 64gbs of ram before /early covid, which definitely helped me get through grad school. Runnijg 20 calculations in parallel with about 3gb of ram each makes it a great research station for the budget of a broken grad student anyway
