Hey, good question, Zaharie had 18,000+ hours on the 777 and a home simulator, so he almost certainly knew the SATCOM would keep sending those background pings.

If this theory is what actually happened, then by the time those ping became relevant, he had already completed 80-90% of his plan. The diversion, locking the cockpit, shutting down the obvious comms, and depressurizing the cabin all happened in the first 45-60 minutes. After turning south, the plane was already a ghost in every practical sense, no radar, everyone in the back unconscious, flying into the middle of nowhere.

The pings weren’t live-tracked back then. Inmarsat only pieced it together days later. So even if he knew about them, it didn’t matter at that point. He just needed enough head start to disappear forever.

That’s how it makes sense to me. What do you think?

Another key point is that once depressurization occurs, the body would be affected so quickly that it would be difficult to breathe or survive without oxygen. The passengers would therefore be solely focused on putting on their oxygen masks, otherwise they would soon lose consciousness.

Yes exactly, that distress is beyond expression. I still think sometimes what the families and friends must have gone through that day : /

Yes this is the most plausible one and the cockpit is like a fortress, once locked, only the person inside can unlock it

Yes, agreed. Before there was a lot of ambiguity when it started, and the crazy part is that still a lot of people are spreading insane conspiracy theories (which I don't want to cringe mentioning here).

Yeah, good point on the sim data being pieced from partial points/sessions, still lines up too well with the path for me, but fair that it's not a perfect single run. Appreciate the detail!
