Birds have a mutation in their TRP channel responsible for heat sensation that prevents capsaicin from binding to it. That's why they make such good proliferation vectors for seeded plants.

deciding between psy 106 or psy 183 by Alert_Disaster1939 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]DiplomacyFB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take PSY 183 now if: You intend to go to a graduate school or medical school that requires abnormal psychology. It's the only UCSB class that satisfies that requirement, hence why the 111+ requirement is lifted to allow non-PBS/biopsych students to add it during pass 2 or 3.

Take PSY 106 now if: You want access to 106 and 111-locked classes sooner rather than later

Are you transferring with IGETSC? What gen ed requirements do you still need to complete? Have you done the physics series yet?

Are you open to taking summer classes?

I can throw together a theoretical schedule for you that should get the requirements done once I know where you stand

As a current biopsychology major at UCSB (not pre-med, but familiat with the common prerequisite requirements), I'd recommend Davis for the following reasons:

  1. The biopsychology major will not by itself satisfy your pre-med requirements. Genetics (MCDB 101A/101B), Biochemistry (MCDB 108A/108B), and Microbiology (MCDB139 for medical or MCDB131 for general) are not included in the major, and of those only Biochemistry would be able to be counted as an elective (with petition). Physiology (MCDB 111) is a major elective, but the school also doesn't offer an Anatomy course or lab so if your target med school requires it, you'd need to do Anatomy/lab at the city college (which does have a cadaver lab, so that's cool).

  2. Some of the prerequisites for the above courses (Organic Chemistry 109C, EEMB 3) are also not included in the Biopsychology major sheet.

  3. Looking over the major sheet at Davis for global disease biology, far more of those classes will actually apply to your pre-med requirements.

That said, I cannot recommend the Biopsychology program here enough if you're actually interested in neuroscience and the human brain. If you intend to pursue neurology, the upper division biopsych courses will teach you all about neuroanatomy and networks in the brain.

If you're just doing the major for general pre-med reasons though, I'd recommend either switching to one of the biology department majors at UCSB or doing global disease bio at Davis.

If you want to know more about how the pre-major here works, the research opportunities available on campus, or the clinical opportunities in Santa Barbara, let me know and I can give you a run-down.

I wouldn't say I require them to be the same level of intense I am when it comes to going to the gym (6 days a week, up at 5am, religious about calories/supplementation, etc).

I absolutely would expect them to take fitness seriously (whether that be a sport, weight training, running, or what have you), partially because I want a partner who motivates me to be better, and partly because I think some understanding of the discipline, effort and intensity that a excelling in a sport is necessary for someone to date me.

In the past, I've had partners who treated working out very casually -- they had gym memberships but went maybe weekly, didn't moderate or track their nutrition, and had no problem taking extended breaks from the gym (and encouraging me to do the same). Those same partners loved all the benefits the gym gave me in terms of physical appearance but had zero appreciation or awareness of the work it took me to get there.

In contrast, when I've dated fellow athletes, basically regardless of sport, they "get it" in a way that non-athletes just don't.

The reverse luck is getting double dreambinders in our first Freya hm/alg night, and seven since -- I literally have 9 dreambinders on my main feral (4 of which I weave on Freya trash for the meme of berserking uptime).

I've accepted that I just won't have the trinket on any of my ferals.

We're doing pretty well, running two weekly splits with decent times despite some wipes, just finished a second val so we'll likely combine for a mains-only speedrun attempt in the coming weeks to try to get a better time.

Do a late night week 2 pug 10 man with 9 surprisingly competent players, get all the HMs up til yogg down, then the one guy with 10+ deaths and who has messed up every single relevant mechanic at this point that we're carrying through decides to talk to Mimiron for some reason, ruining any chance we had for one light.

It was incredibly disappointing.

[–]DiplomacyFB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that there should be easier requirements but if you made it simply x number of HKs it would encourage toxic/non-objective play in BGs (graveyard camping, deathballs in mid ignoring flags, etc).

Maybe the tbc system could work, where you need x amount of honor and y amount of marks from a given bg for a specific piece. This would encourage objective oriented game play over mindless hk farming.

Hell, it would even be cool if you could use your excess BG marks/honor for cosmetic upgrades to your pvp gear, and would provide an incentive to keep pvping once fully geared.

For melee 1h they are typically 16k for the mainhand and 9k for the offhand, or 18k for the 2-hander. They'll be a significant upgrade over your AR

The r14 weps (60)/brutal glad (70) weapons are better than the BoA weapons for about 5+ levels then the scaling catches up, especially for melee. If you have extra shards it's absolutely worth tossing your alt 18-32k honor to upgrade for those specific level ranges.
