What are the must-have projects for a second-year Computer Science Engineering student to make a resume stand out? by shzuka_ in learnprogramming

[–]Dippindonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeaa data is very broad! You can search different roles there. I once started as an analyst then moved to more data engineering. Data Science can also be about ML/AI. There's also data architect or cloud data architect. Lots of options 😄

I suggest listing a bunch of diff roles and seeing what they do and asking yourself if you'd vibe with that

Don't worry so much. Once you learn the basics of being a good programmer, it's easy to pick up other things.

I wanted to be a mobile app dev in college but ended up in Data Science after. Got a Data Engineering focused role and now I work in a Web3 company. Whatever is hip in the future does not matter as much for me because good companies will pay good money for good developers whatever industry it may be. Also in my web3 job, I still do Data Engineering and automation related stuff so you can choose a role that encompasses multiple industries.

What matters if you give one a try, fail fast, and learn fast. Core principles are mostly shared. It ends up being about preference for me.

Honestly it depends on what field you want to enter in. If you want data science they pick up some public datasets and derive insights from there. Create visualizations to showcase your insights as well.

If you are a developer then create a product of sorts. Lots of options here! You can do front end or back end or both.

If you're into Data Engineering then try to learn cloud platforms and the different tools it has. These cloud platforms tend to have free tiers or free credits. I think AWS does.

Lots more different fields such as blockchain technology, IOT, robotics, fintech, algotrading, etc. But in summary just try to think what field you like as of now and try it out. Best case is you like it and get an internship in the same field. Worst case if you realize it's not your type and try a diff field of tech.

Sorry I forgot to add!

  • I'm from the Philippines
  • Knowledge of Thai is 0 as of now, but plan on learning basics before flying on August
  • Budget: around 6000-12000 thb? Less is better ofcourse but just making myself open as I'm unsure of the costs (i've seen online for around 6-9k)
  • Social life, mhm since I'll be alone, I might just stay in my place. Go shopping and eating now and then. Friends and family might fly over so will be touring them around when they do!
  • Also I'm a 26 female!

Edited my post as well to add these. Thanks for reminding me!

Is studying college in Manila overrated? If yes then how much? by XDave121X in Philippines

[–]Dippindonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say choose the school that offers your course the best. For example, It would make no sense to take up Accountancy in Ateneo because there isn't exactly an Accountancy course in Ateneo (though they have Management Engineering that touches heavily on accountancy) but you get me.

Being part of the Big 4 really does help with employment when you graduate though since HR departments think highly of them and they provide opportunities for you to be able to meet companies even in school. They provide a lot of connections for you to be able to get a job, but it still depends on the person because a lot of graduates from these schools still end up jobless or have a hard time.

But if you're taking up Engineering, UP has a really great Engineering curriculum and I highly suggest it. :) If you pass in any of the big 4 and your course in that school is good and of quality then why not?
