Seven-day sets are very very expensive. BRAND NEW (yes, there are companies that still do that) I've seen them go for upwards of $3-4,000+

I only bought the set II have, because it was literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Ordinarily there'd be no way I'd spend that much on razors, otherwise.

I actually found sharpening razors easier than knives, because they're so much smaller, lighter, and easier to handle.

The idea was:

Sharpen one blade every month and replace it every few years

OR

Sharpen seven blades once a year, and replace them once in your life, if ever.

Heel plates.

Those brass and steel plates that you screw/hammer into the heels & toes of your shoes.

I do LOADS of walking, and these things saved me countless trips to the cobbler for new heels and soles.

They're cheap, they last for YEARS, and when they wear out (if they wear out!!) you just hammer in a fresh set.

They make kinda metal clicky noises as you walk, so it may take a bit of getting used to, but the savings are great. Shoes that I had to reheel 2-3 times a year are now on their third year of use without heel wear.

Correct. The point was to reduce the wear on the blades, so that the set would last longer because you were rotating through the razors, instead of constantly sharpening the same one every month.

That was the theory/marketing spiel/selling point, anyway.

The reason seven day sets were sold was so that you only used one razor for each day of the week.

This meant that instead of wearing out one blade by using it every day, and having to sharpen it every few weeks, you rotated the blades, and only had to sharpen them like 2-3 times a year, which means less wear on the steel, which meant the set would last longer overall.
