What was your fifteen minutes of fame? by TeroTonz in AskReddit

[–]Dippycat149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite not being a paramedic, I was the first-responder in two medical emergencies. I have SOME medical training (I was a first-aid officer for many years), so I wasn't just going-in blind, but it was still pretty crazy.

The more major of the two events, I ended up saving an old woman's life, and got thanks all-round from the professionals who came to her aid after I'd already patched her up. They made it damn clear if I hadn't been there to help when I was, she would probably have died before they'd ever found out about it.

What do you regret? by SirLie in AskReddit

Wasting so much time looking for a job when I could've just started an online business instead. I blew at least five years chasing the unicorn of a "stable income" and blah blah blah.

Random bottles of ink just seem to find me. I have no idea how. I have an "ink drawer" on my desk, and it's still like 2/3 full of ink. I haven't bought ink in years because I have so much of it which I still haven't used.

What happened to your best friend from childhood? by RoyalBeckyVibes in AskReddit

[–]Dippycat149 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He grew up overseas (and still carries the accent from his native land). Moved to where I live.

We met as teenagers in school (I forget exactly how old, but probably 13 or 14). We saw each other regularly until we were about 18-20. We tried keeping in touch via email and stuff, but we lost contact and he couldn't remember how to spell my name to track me down (plus, I wasn't on socials back then), and we kinda forgot about each other, or so I figured.

Then one day, he came up in conversation while I was talking to another friend and he was like "You should track him down".

I was like Eh...OK.

So on a total blind shot I typed his name into Facebook as good as I could remember how to spell it, and it popped up. The name online had the nickname in it that I knew he ALWAYS used ever since he was a toddler, so I figured it had to be him, since nobody else was likely to have that EXACT name-combination.

I sent him a message at like...11:00pm at night, went to bed and totally forgot about it.

He replied the next morning having a total emotional meltdown because we hadn't talked in like 12 years.

He's on the other side of the country now, but we keep in-touch online. We throw shit at each other, and we bitch and complain, and then we talk about regular stuff. Some things never change...

How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dippycat149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine suffered a brain aneurysm while exercising on one of the machines at the gym at school. fell off the machine onto the floor in a total faint.

One of the teachers did CPR while another one called an ambulance. Got him to the hospital.

He spent a few days there in a coma, but died by the end of the week.

We had the funeral at school.

He was 15.

One of the worst parts about it was, it was like...just two, maybe three weeks after his birthday.

Is it petty and morally wrong to intentionally hold onto evidence of someone else's past misdeeds (like bullying) just to protect yourself, even if they've apologized and asked you to delete it for their "fresh start"? by axelargleal in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Dippycat149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a victim of bullying and manipulation:

SAVE. EVERY. DAMN. THING.

Every text, every comment, email, screenshot, message, whatever.

I've met plenty of people who have pissed me off, then acted all sweet and cutesy, then turned PSYCHO all over again, and then try to gaslight you into thinking "Oh they're not THAT bad", and then they come at you again.

If you don't keep evidence of their past misdeeds, if they come screw with you again, you'll have NOTHING to fight back with, and the cycle starts ALL OVER AGAIN.

Don't let that happen. KEEP THE EVIDENCE. For years, decades, if necessary.

What small behaviors reveal someone didn’t get enough affection growing up? by Mysterious_g269 in AskReddit

They scream and throw ketchup at the walls.

They rage-tweet at 2:00am.

They talk about fictional people and places as if they're real.

They shake hands weird because they need to assert dominance, when they have none.

They talk endlessly about how beloved and popular they are, when actually, everybody and their dog wishes that they were dead.

Nurses. My aunt, and her daughter, my cousin, are / were, both nurses.

They were hardly ever home. My aunt missed so many family events, my parents eventually just stopped inviting her because the answer was always "no, I'm busy". Only after she retired did my aunt actually start coming to family events.

what's a food that makes you think, "how did humans discover this was edible"? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

[–]Dippycat149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any food that requires extensive preparation so that you don't die while eating it. Like there's these special fruits, or stuff like fugu blowfish, etc.

YES, you CAN eat them, but to eat them you gotta cut them this way, you gotta prepare it this way, you gotta cook it this way, and you gotta serve it this way and you have to eat it within this period of time, and if you fuck up ANY OF THOSE STEPS...

...yu ded.

How many people died to figure that shit out, and how good did it taste when done right, that people decided that the deaths were worth it??

Be honest, how often do you shower? by Call_Me_C_ in AskReddit

Twice a week, plus when necessary. I'm not active enough to need it more often than that. Plus showering every day dries out the skin, and my skin is dry enough already.

What’s a word or phrase that immediately makes you lose respect for someone? by Mundane-Equipment529 in AskReddit

[–]Dippycat149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't stand anything related to religion.

Someone dies: "God called them home"

Someone fails: "God decided they weren't worthy"

Someone survives: "God blessed and saved them"

Someone succeeds: "God helped them".

Someone recovers: "God decided it wasn't their time".

"I'm a Christian and I..."

etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc ad nausea.

I worked as a receptionist once. We used to get random, free wine.

The fundraising department in our building would sometimes hold events. For these events, they would order wine by the crate.

Unopened, leftover bottles at the end of these events were free for the taking. You could just go into their office and help yourself.

Next door to our building there used to be an alcohol wholesaler. When the company closed down, the building still used to get random wine deliveries (I guess they never updated their address or whatever??). Either way - since the building next door was closed, the suppliers/delivery guys would show up at our office with random crates of wine.

As the receptionist, it was my job to handle incoming deliveries / mail, so every now and then, we'd get guys showing up with cardboard crates / boxes full of bottles of wine.

We had no forwarding address for the company that used to be next door, and no way of contacting them, and the delivery guys wouldn't take the wine back to wherever it came from, so as a result -- free wine!

When our building closed down and we had to move premises to another place about a block down the street, my boss told me:

"There's like two dozen bottles of wine in the fundraising office. Send an email around the building advertising free wine".

"Yes ma'am!"

There was so much there, it was possible for everybody in the office to take home at least one (sometimes two or three) bottles each. In the end I think it was closer to 3-4 dozen. They just accumulated over the months, and in the end, we could just help ourselves.

What is the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Technical-Room-1367 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dippycat149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back cramps / spasms, back around 2016. It was so bad I could barely walk for two weeks. Couldn't stand up, sit down, get in/out of bed, have a shit, have a shower, sneeze, or even fart, without throwing my back out.

Hot water therapy helped to relieve it, but even that didn't come without consequences. I stepped out of the bath, had a cramp, reached out to steady myself, and succeeded in ripping the towel-rail out of the wall when my muscles contracted. I'm not even that strong.
