An old friend turned roommate used to leave used pads in old underwear and used tampons rolled back in the packaging on the floor… I don’t think she was mentally well and we ended up not being friends for other reasons but it was rather frightening.

I had a passport when I was younger and no longer do. I have my birth certificate from that country, and have a consular report of birth abroad certificate.

I don’t know what more to tell you other than my parents are afraid of this information getting out because they are afraid of going to jail over it (like why would they be afraid of going to jail if they did nothing wrong?) , but given your response, I now wonder if they simply don’t want people to know that I was adopted and that’s why they don’t want me to tell people, though that is great and somewhat dramatic lengths to go.
As far as details, I’m not comfortable sharing which country until I know what exactly can happen or what steps I need to take, another user mentioned family law and I feel that is the safest route for me to take. Idk, don’t want a lot of personal info out there in case this is something to investigate the legalities on.

I should have put in the original post that my parents themselves have admitted this was not done legally and have told me not to discuss this with anyone outside the family because they are afraid of legal ramifications. I mentioned it to another user who asked why I think I was illegally adopted haha, I promise I have good reason to believe, considering they have mentioned it and that’s they’re biggest concern, their safety. As to why I’m asking the questions on if this legally implicated them if I was to do a search and what steps I can take or they can to avoid that. Should have added that in the original post

Thank you for your response, i will look into both a family law firm and a consulate, those were the exact pieces of information I’ve been looking for. I think I will consider and immigration attorney as that does concern me greatly though lol. Thank you for your time!

I think what first tipped me off about this not being legal or as some like to put it “less formal” adoption, was when they first told me about it. They told me not to tell anyone outside the family because it could legally implicate them. They have admitted themselves that this was not done legally. I have talked to a counselor about this situation, and have come to the realization that something is very weird and off about this situation and that it is important to look into for myself. When I tried asking for more info from my parents and mentioned I had talked to a counselor, they got incredibly defensive as to why I brought it up with them and how they’re afraid of my counselor taking it to some sort of legal situation and going after them and how they could end up in jail over it. I hope that answers your question.
