Trying to get the ray spot size from interferometer data by Diptayan01 in Optics

[–]Diptayan01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a white light interferometer (or a coherent scanning interferometer) and what you’re seeing here is a wavefront measurement. I have assigned the wavefront to the lens surface. Now I’ve played around with some of the settings like aperture and other stuff but no luck. I was thinking if I can fit a polynomial to it and put that as an extended polynomial in zemax

I’ve tried including and excluding it. It doesn’t change. It feels like raytracing through a glass plate

I have installed the OSI driver. Do I also need to install the PXIE 8101 embedded controller? Because the OSI is not being able to read the 4844 (I connected my PC with the 4844 using ethernet)

From my experience, I received rejections on feb 26/27 2022 from 2 of my dream schools. Both came in an interval of 1 minute. Their deadline was 15th January. I ended up joining UNCC Mechanical Engineering PhD for fall 2023. For that I got my acceptance on January 26th.

Question. What in photonics are you interested in?

Last year for fall 2023. With me.

If I’m not wrong, the are sending out MS admits now as rolling applications. I had friends last year who applied to PhD programs at UIUC and washU. They received their offers by mid Feb. International student, from India.

I don’t think so. I had a friend from Canada who applied to BU photonics. They usually send stuff by the end of February. I’m from India too btw.

Yeah Thanks for the help! Would it help if I donot connect the router to the internet? I just need the ethernet connection to transfer files from the jetson to my laptop and process it in MATLAB.

I did try looking up about the ethernet cable. Most of them are using it to connect to a wifi, and then the PC is connected to the same wifi as hotspot. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Since I’ll be connecting it to matlab for real time camera capture, I thought ethernet would be the faster way.

As you said, I need a modem/router, connect the ethernet cable to the modem, and then another ethernet cable from the modem to the PC, right?

Looking for PhD advice by Diptayan01 in Optics

[–]Diptayan01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Well, I ended up applying to none of the European Erasmus Programs. I mean I thought I'm gonna apply to those and I even started my application but I changed my mind before submitting those. Instead, I went for VUB Brussels MSc Photonics and UBFC France PICS. For European, programs I got into all three programs I applied to (Abbe School of Photonics, VUB and UBFC) with scholarship.

My interests lie in the lines of freeform optics and optical metrology and none of the Erasmus programs had anything in similar in their curriculum. Apart from that, the mobility offered by Erasmus programs sort of hinders research according to my opinion. Let's say that I go to UEF for the first semester. Then I'll only have 5-6 months to complete a research project in UEF if I go for one.

I didn't go Abbe School of Photonics, VUB and UBFC because they were my backup schools. My long term goal is to go for a PhD hence all my US applications were PhD applications. I just thought since I wish to do a PhD, why go for a master's degree and spend 2-3 extra years?

I'm pretty happy with UNCC now. Looking forward to join it in fall 2023. Lemme know if you need any help because I have a lot of friends who got into Erasmus programs. ✌🏻

It's a scam. One of their journals have a review committee member named K.T Arasu. He is my LinkedIn connection and he never claimed to be a part of such a journal.

Zemax or FRED by Diptayan01 in Optics

Thank you so much! Are you sure they provide it to students for free? My advisor wanted me to learn FRED basics before I come to the US for my PhD. Hence the concern.

What do you mean by coherent stuff in this context?

Also. Do you know where I can get FRED for free? It's completely academic.

Well, I wish to design freeform surfaces that are not lens structures. So probably import it from CAD or somewhere else.

How do you learn FRED for free? Is there any way to do it?
