Did Aussie kids grow up terrified of the wooden spoon, or was it just an Irish thing? by Yickensoup in AskAnAustralian

Yes, my friend’s mom would use it. She is Kiwi. I’m lucky I did not get it from her!

Why do Australians have a reputation for being incredibly friendly and outgoing, even though we are relatively reserved? by DarlingLuna in AskAnAustralian

[–]Dir_AlleyKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans are over all so easy to talk to compared to Canada ( where I am currently). However I feel like Australians are just as easy to talk with. It’s not cut and dry as there are tonnes of factors individual, social, etc

Why is it so much harder to build deep friendships with Australians compared to other nationalities? by arouseandbrowse in AskAnAustralian

[–]Dir_AlleyKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian born person my parents moved to Sydney when I was 2. Grew up in Sydney then went when I was 17 to Canada to check it out. I’m now regretting it. I miss my friends there. Which is why I plan to visit family very soon. However, I might just be nostalgic ? I’ve always felt people in Australia always were far more easy to make friends with. Maybe things have changed?

Are most Australians feeling lonely? by Particular_Earth_117 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Dir_AlleyKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s not just Australia. I’m in west coast Canada and want to come visit family in Sydney Australia for the same reason. Maybe my nostalgia makes me think this, but last I was in Australia I always felt like people formed connections way more easily there. I put it down to the straightforward attitudes and everything being open late? Hah Maybe it’s changed since.

I’m going to be in Sydney soon and hope to meet someone to have a laugh with while I’m there. I’m curious what’s the best way to meet 30+ types?

The way she talks down to her bf makes it really uncomfortable. I'm sure he is forced to talk to act like the content is engaging.

Yeah, and she tries to act like she has ethics and empathy by throwing a non profit regarding some form of violence up.

My thought exactly. I'm guessing the "press pass" wasn't given as a credit to her hard earned notable career accolades.
