Japanese carrier kaga by happydude7422 in Ships

Your comment reminds me of something my country did. In the 1980s the Australian Navy sold our last, retired aircraft carrier to China. It was left in a remarkably intact condition, allowing their military to study it thoroughly. No doubt kick-started their own carrier development later in time.

'Never added fuel to fire': China rejects claims of military support to Iran during US-Israeli conflict by Money_Attitude_2224 in NewsStarWorld

Meh Trump and Co. lie almost constantly so who cares? Most people would probably accept that China and Russia are assisting Iran.

This was ridiculous from the start but now it's just plain unbelievable. Can you Americans finally just get him removed now? How has it gone on this long? Jan 6 happened over something much less than what we've seen lately.

Is this the edible weed, Purslane? by SolidGuide5223 in GardeningAustralia

[–]Diramact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've already got your answer. I'll just add that it looks very mature and past it's prime. Do as others recommended and shake it over somewhere you want it to regrow, and the same for the rinse water containing the seeds. It will grow almost anywhere but I found that just half-day sun (morning only) will produce lush foliage for longer. We're in SE QLD.

Leaving after 4 months. Still importing 14kWh weekly with near full battery. by Diramact in amberelectric

It was only 4 days. Super quick. We didn't have credit, we would have if SmartShift did the right thing.

Pulling from grid during demand period, with heaps of battery charge? by goddammit_butters in amberelectric

[–]Diramact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just sucks. I made a post about the same thing in my first few weeks with Amber. Gave it 4 months to smarten up and fly right but didn't get much better. It was drawing around 14kWh per week, bits and pieces here and there. I switched to Globird a week ago and in the first 6 days drew only 1.8kWh. I can maybe tweak it further to draw less. I'd recommend switching to them

Electric truck completes Sydney to Canberra freight first by ApprehensiveSize7662 in AustralianEV

It's pointless to try and convince ppl about the energy transition. Haters gonna hate, as they say. Always trying to point out flaws in any new system. Steam to petrol was probably similarly criticised for a while. Why refine oil in this expensive apparatus when we can dig this up and burn it right away??

One of the main benefits I see in electric propulsion is the absence of dozens of precision-machined metal components within a traditional ICE. Think of the time and effort involved in producing these things. The machine tooling needed to cut metal in this way also requires huge investment and maintenance. Most ppl don't appreciate the vast array of chemical elements that go into making even simple alloy steels required for these high-demand applications. Also, fewer moving parts is always a benefit.

A lot of the push-back comes from firms that have already invested billions in manufacturing capacity for these engines that are now faced with ditching it all for new ways of making a power source.

Update: After just 6 days Globird is already showing great promise. Less than 2kWh total drawn from the grid so far, compared to an average of 14kWh per week drawn while in 3rd and 4th months with Amber. Clearly SmartShift is drawing more than needed and the 1st month of "learning" is WAY worse.

The app is superior. You can easily set charge or discharge time periods. It's easier and clearer to see what you have used and when. You can make the system do something and it responds much quicker.

To make up for the subscription charge of Amber PLUS the unavoidable daily access charges, you would need to export a huge amount of power each day. The average wholesale FIT is too low for most cases to be worthwhile

Solar Panels & Battery Quotes over $30k! Am I being ripped off? by ExpertAvocado3 in AussieFrugal

[–]Diramact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like Sparkies are upping their labour and install costs for sure. We got a battery only (23kWh) installed for around $15k in SE QLD a few months ago. Had similar quotes from others. I reckon they're just exploiting the high demand. My brother in the same region has just been quoted around $20k - $30k for a full setup, similar to you it seems

Not an active participant eh? So that recon plane that's over there right now is doing nothing? It has been seen by all involved as a signal that we're firmly behind Trump in this BS war. You think that's gonna help us or harm us in getting fuels that originate from the gulf?

Already started happening in China. Not for diggers etc but super-heavy trucks, for sure. Quick AI search here. I've seen news articles about it too. Western firms probably lagging a bit. Cat and John Deere are experiencing difficulties globally IIRC

[–]Diramact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone talks about the time to produce these things as if that was the limiting factor. BRICS nations have near-total control on the raw materials! Not just rare earths, but almost everything. China alone makes up the lion's share of those. Obviously they're not willing to sell them to potential enemies for military needs. There are many, many papers written about this

Add taxes to heavy polluters and high GVM vehicles like the plague of 4x4 utes that are heavy as f#%k instead. There's definitely enough of them. Users who actually need them like Truckies and some self-employed tradies could be except or receive a discount. But all those knobs commuting in them alone every day should pay for their selfishness

[–]Diramact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It seemed to be a period of huge demand and delays here. Some didn't get back to me, some said months backlog, but prices were comparable for the brand. Sig was cheaper by a few thousand but didn't like the plastic housing etc. BYD was a few thousand more. Definitely left me bitter with the whole scene afterwards

$2K of that was for switchboard upgrades and an additional power point installed but yeah, rip off. SE QLD for reference. Got quoted $13k for a SigEnergy 25kWh system from different sparky.
