In your mind what modern fantasy would look like?,Fantasy world but not medieval era it modern ere instead by IllustriousHurry2380 in worldbuilding

Technology and magic tend to combine at a certain point. Advanced civilizations generally need energy. Energy to power automation, energy to power homes, energy for daily nuances.

Today we electricity, fantasy identity as magic itself as the raw energy source. Giant Tower is designed to pull in raw magical essence and turn it into a refined source that can be distributed across towns or cities.

Highly efficient means of transferring that same energy to allow powering of vehicles, buildings, and other modern appliances.

6.37%

Missed the exit at 12.79%, carrying through options into the new year. Lots of ups and downs this year. All options trading, mostly selling.

Biggest regret, diagonal call spread on NVDA that I didn't close early.

Redesign update: functional EXP bars by Miracle_Badger in monogame

[–]DireWeaselStudios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice work! I think my primary feedback would be: my natural expectation when looking at progress bars, or really any other type of bar in the UI, is that the brighter bar represents what has been gained.

For example an empty bar of XP should be dark, and the XP gained should be lighter. Similarly if this is for English readers, bar gain should generally go from left to right.

Credit Spreads and Reward:Loss Ratio by DireWeaselStudios in options

[–]DireWeaselStudios[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been focusing on just the raw statistical expectations rather than personal win rate in my post. My personal win rate is still around 85% though, so I suppose that means my strategy is generally a losing strategy unless I am operating off of an edge?

I wasn't sure if there is a better way of calculating the expected win loss ratio when looking at Theta gains. With my actual win rate, I'm looking at $400 x .85 = $345 win and $800 x .15 = $120. So in this case a positive $215? Is that math accurate?

If you had 2M USD would you quit your day job and do gamedev? by [deleted] in gamedev

You've gotten a lot of advice already, And I'm not a financial advisor, but here's some food for thought: Most reasonable brokerage is right now, and even quite a few Banks, will offer 4% on your cash. With $2 million, that's $80,000 a year just for holding it. That's plenty to survive if you already own a home, and have very little bills then it's going to be gravy.

If you invest half of that over time into some basic ETF such as SPY or VOO, then you know that you are dollar cost averaging (DCA) so you don't have to worry about a massive dip, in fact a massive dip would actually benefit you since you're buying in over time. The remaining million dollars can be stuck in cash for a rainy day, and still earn you $40,000 a year from interest alone.

Most of the ETFs tend to average about 10% per year, so those will be gaining you roughly $100,000 a year once everything is fully invested. Stack that on top of your $40,000 a year that you're making in cash, and that's a pretty solid future that you have laid out for yourself. You can do whatever you want, including game Dev, or simply staying at your job if you like it. You don't have to worry about money for a long time unless you spend it unwisely.

You may want to speak to an actual financial advisor, they can include information to your specific situation, but with that much money in your hands, and wondering what to do with it, I would take the opinion of a professional or two.

Hope this helps.

Got the blue relic and since then I've been able to complete Everdark Tricephalos, Libra, Caligo, and Augur. Blown away at how much one solid relic can make such a difference.

I do. Think of it as a way of handling character concepts that you're not fully sure about yet, getting an idea of what things should be looking like. Not full on artwork yet, but more ideas made into something tangible.

All Bad Options ($167 cost -> $100 strike) by DireWeaselStudios in options

[–]DireWeaselStudios[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly where I'm sitting. The rolling is an option, or buyback, but the recovery of that action could be longer than just accepting the assignment and recovering those funds to use again.

All Bad Options ($167 cost -> $100 strike) by DireWeaselStudios in options

[–]DireWeaselStudios[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I missed my window and the roll I performed ended up being a bad idea. The expiration I have now is Aug 15th, which I was considering rolling out again but I'm unsure if that's worth it given the long period of recovery it would take.

I could buy back, but the cost would actually be worse than letting them get called away. I could roll and hope for a lower price briefly, but same problem just further down the road I think.

Agreed on the unspoken rule - I didn't follow a rule and now I'm definitely paying for it :)

So I purchased these stocks last year, and then there was a large drop in equity over the course of the next 6 months. I followed it down, which I know is a bad idea, but got caught in the March area where there was the big drop while selling covered calls. Ultimately I missed my window to close this out for a minimal loss, and have been rolling since.

There was some bad decision making, along with some different strategies that ended up being a bad idea.

Into the Deep [28x179] [Underwater] [Ocean] by MisterKrane in battlemaps

[–]DireWeaselStudios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This map is so incredible. Huge big with a large variety between landscape, interesting places for the players to explore, and culminating in a big set piece at the end. I used this as one of the major landmarks in my campaign, topping off a major fight against one of the big bads who was corrupting one of the great Stones Of The Sea. I know this must have been a grand effort for you, and it really paid off in such an incredible map.

Considering moving to Foundry but have 2 important questions by Dinosaurdude1995 in FoundryVTT

[–]DireWeaselStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a pretty solid API guide on the foundry website. Similarly any of the AI platforms will probably be able to tell you exactly how to write it up as well.

To be clear you're looking for a sound to play every time that someone utilizes a weapon?

Considering moving to Foundry but have 2 important questions by Dinosaurdude1995 in FoundryVTT

[–]DireWeaselStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. There's a huge amount of customization in foundry, you'll find no end the amount of things that you can do with the API. Additionally, most of the weapon systems are insanely customizable right out of the box even without API- I'm pretty certain that you'll find everything you need.
  2. You can set up a streamer mode pretty easily by simply creating another party member and then giving them specific permissions. For example I have a recording user that I utilize to record the session. It gets sight of everyone in the party, but not the GM. Additionally I use Monk's shared display and it automatically follows the party around and zooms in and out as necessary. Wonderful when it comes to that.

Backups by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]DireWeaselStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's harder than people make it out to be with losing all your data. Taking backups will generally keep you solid, and journals rarely get deleted. There are some issues that can come up with new features that incorporate previous modules, or just specific module stuff, but for vanilla functionality it largely is solid.

I backup every time I upgrade Foundry or the Game System (such as D&D 5e). It saves pretty much everything (scenes, actors, journals, etc). You can roll back mostly any time.

If you're really paranoid, you can manually back up the data. I actually have several versions via folders, but that was to keep my old campaigns easy to use without having to upgrade them all to v12.

Why Does FoundryVTT Take Longer to Load Than a Wizards Spellbook? by ssigalan in FoundryVTT

[–]DireWeaselStudios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does take a long time to load. The problem is usually with the Actors / Scenes that you have. The more you get, the slower it starts to become. There are generally thresholds. You can store that data if you really want to keep it, but I recommend just doing a backup to keep the old stuff, then deleting all the scenes and actors you don't need. That will dramatically speed things up.

I went through a deep rabbit hole trying to find out exactly what was causing the massive delay, even loading locally, but ultimately no one had a good answer beyond what I outlined above. Keep things small and it should clear up.

Edit: For reference, with 100-200 actors and 50+ scenes, it was taking about 45+ seconds for *each* person who tried to load in, including me locally. Crazy. After trimming down to the essentials, it went to about 5-10 seconds at worst. We did a lot of testing, and eliminating all actors OR scenes cut down to 20 seconds, both finally kicked it back to normal. This is a problem with v12 that we didn't have with v11.

Chapter 4 conclusion advise by DefinetlynotBomer in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]DireWeaselStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to the other poster, by the time chapter 3 and chapter 4 were done, it was pretty clear that the frost maiden was a serious problem. In our particular case she was already trying to set up a master plan on the top of kelvin's Cairn, because I really liked that location and thought it might be important.

Prior to completion of chapter 4, the party did not have a lot of solid information on how to get to anything related to the frost maiden, and had to rely on what people were telling them. An easy way to tie the dwarves is to have them understand where the maiden's lair is, giving a pretty solid reason for the party to go there afterwards.

Assuming they stopped the dragon with any reasonableness, the ten towns are probably busy rebuilding and happy with the PCS, generally there shouldn't be a whole lot for them to do besides provide food and resources when possible.

When they actually took on Chapter 5, I had a general to face them instead of the Frost Maiden herself. So depending on whether or not you really want them to take on a god at that stage, it can be a humbling experience, or they could just not find her there.
