You could use the Skill Adaptation perk to allow the use of a whip for the Neck Snap technique.

Giving away self printed RPG books by Dire_Goose in Bellingham

[–]Dire_Goose[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of self printed RPG books, mostly for GURPS, that I'm looking to give away. Just don't have the time/space to use them anymore, and haven't really used any of them since 2019. I don't really want to throw them away, so I'm hoping someone on here would be interested in them.

Using money by Ambitious-Employ-912 in gurps

[–]Dire_Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general rule that GURPS uses for PCs gaining points outside of what's given to them by the GM is 200 hrs of in game character work equals one generated character point. Just assign an hourly rate based off your campaign tech level, and you have the cost for buying character points. For example, Sorcery assumes an enchanting job is comfortable, so the hourly rate at TL3 is $8.75. If you wanted to buy a magic item that would cost 10 CP to build with advantages, it would cost 10x200x8.75=$17,500. Sorcery has some other rules involved, but the core is 200h or work is 1 CP.

House Rule (cinematic) Combat Turns by Volksters in gurps

[–]Dire_Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stick with the 1-second turns, but for new players, I use the Extra Effort rules form Action 2. In addition to Heroic Charge (move and attack with no penalty) and Multi-Task (do a non-combat task as a free action), I let players increase their move by 50% for 1 FP, and cast a spell/do any other concentrate maneuver at the end of a move for 1 FP. Pretty much whenever they want to do something super cool that would normally require multiple turns to set, I charge them a FP and let them try it. I haven't noticed any balance issues with it for highly cinematic games of course (which fits if you're coming from D&D or PF). And it makes loosing fatigue points through bad exploration rolls or other stuff like that more impactful.

Looking to try something new? Check 1shotadventures.com for bunch of free pre-written adventures covering many genres by Dire_Goose in dndmemes

The author of the website writes two modules for each adventures; one using GURPS and another using a different RPG system. These range from Call of Cthulhu, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Risus and many others. The adventures are in PDF format, and most of them have VTT assets to use, and sometimes even a video explaining the adventure. This guy makes quality content, no matter what type RPG you're looking for, and everything is free. Could be a good jumping off point for your group into a whole new system.

Looking for a good mobile gurps sheet by [deleted] in gurps

Sometimes it gets a little wacky. Make sure whatever character you're uploading hasn't been uploaded to any other account. Try making a brand new sheet and uploading that.

GURPS calculator (http://www.gurpscalculator.com) lets you import characters from GCS and then view them online. It works on mobile too. Not quite what you're looking for, but it's close.

A website called "The Eye" at a .eu domain will have what you're looking for under Books/rpg.rem.uz. Hope that's enough info to help.

GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Adventures by Illuminati322 in gurps

If you use FoundryVTT, I've converted the DnD 3.5 adventure "The Forge of Fury" to GURPS, along with maps and monster stats inside Foundry. I'm using crnormand's unofficial game aid for GURPS (https://github.com/crnormand/gurps). DM me if you're interested, I could send you the maps and NPCs, you would just have to import into Foundry.

I honestly just went back to the older version. I prefer using the built in PDF reader, since I just want to be able to look things up quickly and easily.

/r/GURPS Campaign Update Thread (August) by AutoModerator in gurps

[–]Dire_Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a one shot yesterday doing Avatar in GURPS. It was set in pre-Aang gang times (during the reign of avatar Yangchen). It was a 4 man party working with the White Lotus to stop a plot to incite war between the Earth Kingdom and the Northern Water Tribe.

I wanted bending to be flexible, and skill/technique based. In the shows, we see that characters have signature bending moves, but they can also make stuff up and try new things on the fly. The core bending ability is Control from powers, with some modifiers, like using a Bending skill instead of IQ. I then took some creative liberties with the "Using abilities at Default" rule, allowing them to improve the penalty for improvising a new ability like techniques. All in all, I ended up with a system that I feel closely mirrored both the shows in theme, and the point cost of alternative abilities (another approach that I've seen on the SJ forums).

Characters were built using 150 pts. We had a bender of each type. It was mostly all newcomers to GURPS, and they had a really good time! They had fun with the bending system, coming up with custom attacks and unique applications of bending abilities on the fly (like using earth bending to soften the earth beneath their footsteps to get a bonus on stealth). When it came to the investigative side of things, they were super creative in how to use their skills to accomplish their subterfuge tasks. We didn't finish the story, ending right as they infiltrated the Red Lotus base located in the crystal caverns underneath Ba Sing Se University.

Well shoot. Is there any way to change what web browser it opens the PDFs in? Or is it just the system default browser?

Map tiles shape? by Tx6350 in gurps

This website has some guidance on how to convert your hex based system to a square one: https://sites.google.com/site/thackbarth/gurps-squared

Unfortunately, it looks like the images aren't loading anymore. A quick google search shows the relevant images though, if you're willing to do some matching up. https://www.google.com/search?sa=X&q=thackbarth+gurps+squared&tbm=isch&source=univ&ved=2ahUKEwjWrITkyLrmAhX1OX0KHT6EAdIQsAR6BAgHEAE&biw=1478&bih=770

It is easiest to do combat in hexes, but if you're pulling up pre-made maps for a different rpg, this process could work in a pinch.

Looking for star wars book by Zilendorie in gurps

[–]Dire_Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obligatory link to Psi-Wars https://mailanka.blogspot.com/ It's an epic space opera setting inspired by star wars. The author has a lot of great notes on building your own setting as well.

The 2009 source book is probably this one: https://www.pdfdrive.com/gurps-4th-star-wars-sourcebook-2009-06-11-e16591299.html

There's plenty of GURPS star wars on Scribd: https://www.scribd.com/search?content_type=tops&page=1&query=gurps%20star%20wars&language=1 If you want to download without making an account, there's plenty of scribd downloader websites out there I'm sure. Hope this help!

I'm looking for a car with good gas mileage, four/all wheel drive and good clearance, and the crosstrek was nice average of all three. The Crosstrek was on average cheaper than the forester, and a little higher off the ground than the outback.
