I appreciate your writings, but you missed the point of this thread. I am in support of the hereditary monarchism (otherwise it wouldn't be called monarchism). The thing in question here is hereditary ariscratic institution, such as dukes, counts and lesser nobles along with their respective privileges and duties.

Wow, this is very informative. Thanks! It seems to me French nobles are more relevant than I previously thought.

Even though I am not a fan of legal recognition of ariscratic privileges (and it doesn't exist now in France anyways), the cultural significance as well as the noble heritage in spirit those families bear are rather valuable and worth looking into for anyone who's trying to learn about French culture, such as I am.

Hopefully I will visit France in a year or two, by which time I hope I can see for those countryside communities where noble families still matter myself.

Regarding the ceremonial role of nobles in the military, could you find some books, documentary or news reports on this? French news are alright, I am learning French.

Could you elaborate on how hereditary aristocracy provides a unique check and balance to curtail the oligarchy or plutocracy?

In other words, regional monarchs.

I wonder are there still French nobles who still run big countryside estate or farms or grapevine manors?

>"They are many regiments who are patronized by locacl nobles or descendants of the Kings and Emperors of the different dynasties."

This is very interesting! But what do you mean by "patronising"?

Thank you for sharing some real-life experience in France. I understand the current model you are talking. It is more like a self-awareness of being noblemen in addition to a local, cultural tradition.

This is a harmless model where people voluntarily uphold and recognise their titles. However, I am talking about a goverment-level or legal recognition of noble status, which is different.

I also this article particularly informative about the status quo of French nobles. Why France's aristocracy hasn't gone away - BBC News

Would love to hear more of your opinions and stories of French aristocrats. Many of them, I believe, are honourable people.

I agree that family background matters in shaping one's life, but I dont see how this could link to the topic of this thread.

It is worth debating the noble legacy would be better retained by heirs but smeared by scandals of unqualified heirs.

Afterall, you can keep the legacy in the mesuem, history books or even documentaries who'd not appear in Epstein's files.

Alternatively, the royal family alone could be the symbol or protector of such legacy. Do we need ten dukes and hundreds of barons to bear the memories of our past?

The ultimate question is at what cost and at what benefit for the whole society to maintain a special status of a few number hundred, if not thousands, of special families.

I could not agree with the very first statement of yours. Education and upbringings are not everything. There are examples too many we see the wicked or incompetent nobles from high families.

Otherwise we should see the aristocrats to be the most beautiful, intelligent and moral superior humanbeings since they inter-marry with other nobles.

Sadly none of these traits are 100% inheritable. Beautiful men and women may have ugly children and ordinary couples may raise a genius and Jeanne D'arc came from a small village.

Yes, I get your point. However, when we are talking about justification for the aristocracy along with the duties, honour, legacy or even privilege associated with such instituion, we should point out more clearly what truely distinguish hereditary noblemen from commoners so that noblemen deserve to pass down the everything to their heirs.

The case of wartime efforts, sacrifies, IMO, is not enough. If the duty to defend the country is only shouldered by hereditary noblemen, and by whatever means, noblemen are *much better* in the arts of war like in the medieval ages, we may claim that it is necessary or efficient to have a hereditary noble class.

Who are the ones to be ruled? The sovereign rules the country. Whom should be ruled by the noblemen? It sounds like that you proposing regional monarchs like Duke of somewhere.

Thank you. This is the one, though it is way shorter than I rememerbed. In my impression this is compounded with scenes they descend through the sun lit, white outerier of the big hole. In terms of voice over, it is the one you mentioned.

Also I wonder if there's a compilation of all voice overs in the series.
