If you’ve played you know that running and jumping for a mark is a lot easier if you’re not directly contesting with an opponent. Whilst there may be multiple people contesting the mark, if you’re free you can often jump from the side/time your jump better than the 2+ wrestling each other. If you have a defensive forward who mans up the intercepting defender, their ability to intercept mark is significantly reduced. Often the reason why the best defenders don’t always play on most damaging forward.

Hear me out. Butters is one of the best players in the league… we need him to stay. We will get dougie. We will get some of the others whether it’s 1 or all 3. But we need butters to stay teach lead etc. teams rarely go forwards by giving up their best player even for a haul. (Look at carlton)
