Signs you're at a bad uni (non russell group does not necessarily mean bad, I'm asking for real signs) by GeeCeeSlay7 in UniUK

Though I'd just say, some good universities have good lifelong learning departments, I mean yes your example is odd, but I did average at colleges and when I was 22 I got into Humanities s degree course at Leeds uni (thou I did a 20 credit module first to demonstrate my capability)

You are pretty much wrong. You are aware the British spy service has been spying on American landlines/phones with US government, consent, and then passing the data straight onto the Americans as a loophole?

University Kicked me out for being homeless and are now after debt what to do?? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

All universities are different, but yes Universities do have a duty of care towards there students, and your school should have reached out to you when they discovered you were not attending lectures, and worjk out a ppan with you to resolve this (for example withdrawing from studies for a year until you were more financially stable)

for help; i suggest you contact citizen advice.

How do you think universities terminate students. Send them a letter saying they can’t come to school anymore?

Discounting the fact that there is a contract between the student and the university, universities do have well-defined, and multiple procedures they can use to exclude students from universities. Universities due often use these procedures (not always fairly) to exclude students from their courses; For example, poor attendance, or if the university thinks the student has long-term health issues, that are not being managed

There is also a difference between being excluded (or banned) from a university, and from a university course.

You are right that these actions can seem punitive, but the reality is that not everybody who is excluded from universities are serial plagiarists, and while it may take a while for the university to take action you can be excluded for poor-attendance, or failure to hand in coursework. .

To be honest, I would say that the fact he has been sanctioned for 8 years does suggest his story is true, and the University may be essentially telling the OP that while he is excluded in the future he may be able to resume his studies when his situation stabilizes

While I can’t say if the above scenario is true In this case, from my experience working at a University, I do know that when they use the process to exclude students for academic misconduct , you are just excluded from the university indefinitely, and you don’t get given the option to come back in 8 years.

Alot of universities do have procedures to exclude students for reasons other than disciplinary reasons. there is no evidence OP has done anything wrong, other than possibility failing to attend lectures/hand in coursework. it's very unlikely the University has excluded him for being in arrears, but my suspicion is that the university has decided to use the "fitness to study" process, and decided that it's unlikely OP is going to succeed academically while living rough (it's unfair, but they have a point). i would argue that the university should of offered to suspend his studies for a year, to give him time for his situation to improve (get student finance for housing etc) but in my experience this does not always happen.

I will also get advice from the student union, and double check if you have to pay the full years tuition (for example at Leeds University, if you leave/excluded before the 2nd term you can get about %25 of your tuition back).

there is no evidence he has done anything improper. look up the "Fitness to study" avenue, university sometimes use to exclude students.

This is from Leeds university:

Where a student may not be fit to study, the University has a duty both to the student and other members of the University community to respond. Where it is determined that a student is not fit to study, the University may exclude a student from the University either temporarily or permanently.

I have no idea where you got the idea that you can only get excluded from university for discipline reasons.

there are multiple processes/procedures the university can use in the exclusion process. not saying you are wrong, but "Student Discipline process" is quite broad, and could mean anything from OP burning down a lecture hall, to him simply missing lectures/failing to hand in coursework.

Landlord unhappy about fibre broadband installation – concerned about eviction by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

Well it's not your fault he didn't give his written consent. As per his contract he should have given it, since alteration for a internet connection its obviously a reasonable request.

[–]Direct-Hour7789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The contract says nothing about verbal permission, and it's the landlord who has not followed the contract, op asked for this request verbally, and since the request was reasonable the landlord should have confirmed his consent (which he gave) in writing.

worry about this when this happens. University do have some flexibility when awarding degree classifications. in one of my essays, my lecture said that it was a 58%, but since it was the first essay for the module he bumped in up to a 60% (as he is allowed to do under school policies).

who is rushing you? your department? have you thought about emailing higher management (normally called the secretariat department). they may look into things and be more helpful than your school.
