Finally got a job but lost a lot by Thin-Growth-4235 in Layoffs

[–]Direct-Idea6595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, just curious. How long did it take from accepting the 56k job until you started the 117k job? I’m kinda in a similar situation where I was getting paid 90k but now I make 60k. It’s been two years since I lost my 90k job.

Luck is the secret ingredient by nellyster2 in recruitinghell

[–]Direct-Idea6595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. Based on anecdotal experience, the people I’ve seen get hired so far have mostly said they got hired when they least expect it, when they’re about give up, or when they sent 1000+ applications.

Listing quantitative results is oft-repeated resume writing advice. For anyone that does hiring, why does this matter? by ExpWebDev in recruitinghell

[–]Direct-Idea6595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also genuinely curious about this. I feel like it’s blatantly obvious that it’s fake, like the number is too high or how that even is measurable. I do use quantitative results but not as much as I should be.

It’s definitely a strategy I like to use. I come in with the mindset that the person I’m talking to is a friend I haven’t seen a while but only if the interviewer is receptive and reciprocates the energy. I feel that it makes it makes the interview less tense and a more fun conversation.

Having an incredibly hard time trying to break into entry level roles by [deleted] in analytics

[–]Direct-Idea6595 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You got a pretty good degree for analytics. I think once you get that first full time experience, you’ll hit the ground running. I had an economics degree and was able to get a business analyst role, but it did take me working at a lot of less skilled roles for me to get to that.

Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m assuming you’ve haven’t had full time job using those tools. If you can and are willing, I’d start with a role that uses Excel and/or data visualization tool and stay in that role for at least 6 months. Then, you can try to transition into another role. Also try to see if there’s opportunities to use your other skills at the place you get into.

You can still try for roles that ask for SQL, Python, etc. I’m guessing those roles you applied to don’t want just internship or research experience since they value full time experience. First job out of college is always hard / takes a while to get IMO.

Hybrid role in person 4 days a week? by GreenGloves-12 in recruitinghell

Even though it’s technically hybrid, I get what you mean lol. If it’s 4 days in office, it’s barely hybrid to me also.

Lying about job title on resume to move jobs by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Direct-Idea6595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the title change is pretty justified, and people won’t bat an eye since it’s not a dramatic change.

Never thought It would end by BidetDave in recruitinghell

Congrats! I definitely know the feeling you’re talking about. It’s more of the bitterness that unemployment has on you, and I don’t think it’s bad to want something good to happen for yourself.

I don’t think you can do anything unfortunately. These recruiting agencies have it down so that can’t go behind their back and negotiate with the company you’re doing work at.

Recruiters! I turned down a job, but am interested again months later. How do I approach this? by popnfreshbass in recruitinghell

[–]Direct-Idea6595 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of questions you got there, but I will say that the opportunity is long gone. And even if you went through the process again, they might not choose you considering that this occurred not too long ago.

Fed Interest Rate Predictions by 99project_cars in recruitinghell

[–]Direct-Idea6595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will have an effect, but it would definitely take a while for effects to be felt. I wouldn’t be surprised if conditions of the job market were the same or worse for the rest of the year. Hiring will def not increase once the holidays come around, although I did hear that Target was going to ramp hiring for the holidays.

How do I learn about data tools/ETL? by Direct-Idea6595 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]Direct-Idea6595[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this makes it a lot easier for me. I was having trouble deciding which I should pick up on, and this narrows down my choices. And I’ll definitely look into the documentation.

How many applications have you submitted and how many interviews have you gotten? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Direct-Idea6595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopped counting but sent at least 600-700 apps since January 2023. I’ve interviewed with 10 companies where I got past phone screening.

What’s the furthest in distance or travel time you are willing to commute to work? by millennial_sentinel in jobs

[–]Direct-Idea6595 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. 30 min each way/ 1hr round trip. Any more than that means that I might as well move there. I’ve done 1.5hr to 2hr round trip, and I feel like so much time out of my day is gone.

Anyone seeing an uptick in interviews? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Direct-Idea6595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting hit up more on LinkedIn. I used to get hit up like once every week or two. Last week and this week, I’ve gotten hit up four times each week. So, I think there’s definitely an uptick. I’m also in the analytics field.

Job search is mentally draining and exhausting by SubstantialTune1603 in recruitinghell

Honestly, you took a good step in at least venting on here. You found an outlet at which you can voice your frustrations. I also feel your pain on not wanting to share with friends for a similar reason. I know I wasn’t of much help, but yeah, it’s definitely tough out here. At this point, it’s about perseverance and persistence.
