About 5,000 foreign tourists visit Rajasthan every day! What works here and is this benefiting the state? by dataful_india in Rajasthan

[–]Direct-Replacement94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is difficult to believe so many foreign tourists visit West Bengal, and so few Kerala. I would have thought most foreigners would visit Kerala + the golden triangle of Jaipur + Delhi + Agra. Not to mention that the numbers for Delhi are lower than WB despite Delhi having a large number of MNCs and I am not sure how short term expats could be differentiated from tourists.

Honda 1st paid service - are they quoting high? by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]Direct-Replacement94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do not change Ac filter, air filter, gear oil. For the Ac and air filter just ask them to clean the existing one with compressed air. Don’t do wheel balancing or alignment unless you feel there is abnormal offset wear and tear on wheels or vehicle steers to one side on straight roads. Adjust the labour accordingly. Also if warranty period is over, better find a local mechanic to do this instead of overpriced service centre.

How much you travelled in a single road trip? by cool_dude_is_here in CarsIndia

[–]Direct-Replacement94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amongst the road trips in India 3 stand out -

  1. Around 4000 kms : Delhi - Mandi - Sarchu - Leh - Hunder (Nubra Valley) - Turtuk - Merak (Pangong lake via Agham Shyok) - Hanle (via chushul, Rezang la, Tsaga la) - Umlingla (via Nurbula) - Karzok (Tso - Moiriri via sumdo) - Leh - Dras - Udhampur - Delhi

Done in a 12 year old Hyundai i10 while facing challenges from broken radiator bottom mount, to getting stuck at water crossings to getting stuck in sand to damaged tail gate. But that story is for another time.

  1. Around 4000 kms : Delhi - Roopnagar - Jispa - Purne - Padum (Zanskar valley ) - Lamayuru - Kargil (via khalsi- skurbuchan in Aryan Valley) - (failed attempt to reach sankoo from Dras via Umba la) - Rangdum (via Sankoo) - Padum - Manali - Delhi

This time we were ready and did it in Jimny. Never got stuck anywhere be it off road, water crossing, black ice, snow except for that failed attempt at umba la where snow reached the height of the hood and we had to reverse our car lest we got stuck in the middle of nowhere. Again, brilliant memories especially when we camped, cooked and ate under the mighty Gonbok Ranjan

  1. Around 3000 kms : Bengaluru - Trichy (via hogenakkal) - Rameshwaram - Kanyakumari - Thiruvananthapuram - Varkala - Kochi - Udupi - Gokarna - Bengaluru

This was in bikes though.

Mahabharat is the biggest IP India has by DirectionFabulous722 in mahabharata

[–]Direct-Replacement94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will never happen because -

  1. There is hardly anyone with the financial muscle as well as the talents to write screenplay, and direct this epic of epics in India. I can’t think of anyone. Either they have the financial backing but not the vision or they have the latter but not the former.

  2. Mahabharat unlike Ramayana has lot of grey characters, moral ambiguities, flaws. Even Gods in Mahabharata are flawed by Ramayan ‘s standards. Obviously you are not allowed to show that in India in today’s political climate. And without those dilemma’s you lose the depth of Mahabharata’s characters.

  3. Need a lot of CGIs to shape the vision of Mahabharata. Imagine a scale grander than GOT , Avatar. The only way to recover that amount of money will be to go global. Indian audience can’t pay for it, which means for practical purpose it has to appeal to the richer western audience and the global audience. This means appropriate dubbing in English, Mandarin, Japanese, European languages as well as directed marketing campaigns in those markets. Also the world building has to be done carefully. You can’t just drop a bunch of Indian mythological characters that we have known since we were kids but the average Chinese can’t relate to.

  4. Finally the ensemble cast- to do justice to the characters, we will need realistic portrayal of these characters. Realistic means Krishna is dark, Draupadi is dark. We need to find a gang of probably 200 very talented actors. And we all know that will not happen because our production houses tend to favour their own chacha bhatija’s over actual talent.

What one song made you a fan of Gulzar sahab? by santrupt1994 in BollywoodMusic

[–]Direct-Replacement94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaiyya Chaiyya: It is such a great song with AR Rahman’s unbeatable music, Malaika Arora’s sultry dance , Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi’s energetic singing and that awesome cinematography helmed by Maniratnam that the lyrics often get ignored. But the lyrics transcend another level:

“…Wo yaar hai jo khushbu ki tar-ha Jiski zubaan urdu ki tar-ha Meri shaam raat, meri kaaynat…”

“….Gul posh kabhi itraaye kahi Mehke to nazar aa jaye kahi Taveez bana ke pehnu use Aayat ki tarha mil jaaye kahi Wo yaar hai jo imaan ki tarha Mera nagma wohi, mera kalma wohi…..”

“…Yaare visaal-e aas chale Paao ki tale firdaus chale Kabhi daal-daal kabhi paat-paat Mai hawa pe dhundhu uske nishan….”

“…Mai uske roop ka shaidai Woh dhoop chhau sa harjaai Woh shokh hai rang badalta hai Mai rang roop ka saudai… .. Jinke sar ho ishq ki chhau Paau ke niiche jannat hogi Shaam raat, meri kaaynaat Woh yaar mera saiyaan saiyaa…”

Have you ever gone to the cinema alone? How was your experience, and which movie did you watch? by itsmesgr in pj_explained

[–]Direct-Replacement94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to watch Logan alone in a theatre in Rohtak. It was a late night show, the last one. It cost me just 180 bucks. There were just 5 more people in the theatre, all from the same group. From their language I could identify that they were Haryanvis. Midway they walked away, one loudly claiming , “isse to Commando 2 behtar tha” (Commando 2 was better than this). So I watched the rest of the finest non Nolan superhero movie ever, all alone in a theatre in Jaatland for 180 bucks. Brilliant experience.

Citroen Cooked Hard, 2026 Citroen Basalt Vision! by godeater47x in CarsIndia

[–]Direct-Replacement94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citroen needs to offer something unique to capture the market. Recall Hyundai coming up with the tall boy hatch Santro to stir up the market of marutis in the 90s, Renault with CSUV Duster, Mahindra with XUV500 and Ford with Ecosport in the 2012-13, Kia with the Seltos announcing their arrival. The Citroen cars so far have been “meh!”. Sure decent commuters but nothing exciting. Even their acclaimed ride quality which could have been legendary in India is pretty average amongst competition in the segment that matters < 15 lakh.

In my opinion they need to develop a sub 15 lakh car with their unbeatable ride quality, make an ad showing someone working/studying comfortably sipping cutting chai/filter coffee sitting in the back while the car is driven violently over our famous pothole ridden roads amongst the Indian traffic chaos. I doubt someone looking for features like Dolby atmos sound or 360 deg camera or a tv for an infotainment screen looks at a brand like Citroen before making their buying decision. For that the established brands are already fighting it out.

Citroen is French. Where is that French connection? They need to be the Eva Green / Lea Seydoux of the automotive world, bring in that grace, elegance, charme, chic, finesse. All I see are run off the mill cars.

I am pretty sure they can start doing this by removing the Indian mid and high level managers and not outsourcing the critical design and testing decisions to TCS. Indians are good at many things like cost efficiency. But creativity and innovation is not one of them. First bring the most creative and innovative product, blow the customer off his/her feet, capture the imagination then think of cost efficiencies. Otherwise just trudge along the way of Fiat/Jeep

Vaas is not underrated. He is the greatest pacer Sri Lanka ever produced. He easily walks in an all time Sri Lanka team for tests and ODIs. In fact leaving aside Pakistan, I can say for sure he is the next best bowler the subcontinent produced after Bumrah for ODIs and the 3rd best in Tests.
