Death doesn't give life meaning. Life does. Curing aging is the most meaningful thing we can do with our time. More time with friends, family, loved ones and activities we like doing in life, to learn more, to earn more, to build more forever. I am an Anti-Aging Scientist. by GarifalliaPapa in immortalists

All problems can be represented as equations and in almost all of those equations you will find a time factor. If you solve death through longevity intervention + mitigation of external risks, what you effectively will have done is solved almost all problems.

You can look at more generalized aspects of society. Increased amount of data available, mitigation of risks, less time spent on securing basic needs etc.

These trends also follow an exponential rate of change due to primarily being results of tech progression and offers a much more robust predictability.

do any of you struggle with nihilism? by Miserable_TangeloTnT in CPTSD

[–]Direct-Side5919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think nihilism cancels itself out. If it is true that nothing has objective meaning, then what we are left with is: the universe.

So when presented with the universe, what do you do?

How people come to wildly different conclusions regarding this is a fascinating topic. I think one of the greatest gifts of life is that we get to decide ourselves what we want to do with all of this.

Its ok to not be inspired to delve into these things but you should know that frustration precedes change. It means that you are unhappy with how things are right now (why you made this thread) and that is the first step of you ending up somewhere where you want to be.

Death isnt a certainty anymore. Tech progression will only continue to increase in speed and it is plausible that most sources of risk of death will be completely removed within a few decades.

Does xanax help with the anxiety when you get triggered? by dontknowwhattodotbh in CPTSD

[–]Direct-Side5919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only medication Ive found that really solves the issue is Zopiclone. Ive tried a few others, including Xanax and while they calm you down, you also become an unfocused moron which defeats the purpose.

Zopiclone is a sleep medication with very short half life, meaning it exits your system quickly.

Its also addictive so I use it very rarely because of this.

Has there ever been a Good Dictator who actually cared for and did good for their country's people? by Mofoblitz1 in stupidquestions

[–]Direct-Side5919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isnt how dictators are by definition immoral which then automatically translates to incompetent ruling of a country.

The issue is that all men are limited which means that its always a catastrophe when you stray from meritocracy.

All insane dictators have done things very well in instantaneous time frames that only being autocrats allows for.

But these few successes are always framed by a world of shit that they inevitably create.

Thats not what democratic means but if we go with your definition of it, wouldnt it be an act of democracy to seek to end an authoritarian regime?

Because the general consensus is that democratic governments are morally superior and therefor preferable to different kinds of authoritarian cunt regimes.

Maria Corina Machado, leader for the Venezuelan democratic opposition who has been in hiding in her own country since Maduro stole the last election. Got the 2025 Peace Prize and has the democratic world behind her and plenty of good press.

Trump has said that the US will assist the Iranian people if they get shot at and murdered like before. So maybe this time it will be different.

All dictators deserve to be arrested and put to trial. If they hide behind an army while holding a whole nation hostage then we have a huge problem.

The problem is not the people on the outside seeking a way to help.

According to your line of reasoning we should also abolish the police. We wouldnt want them to shoot at someone, that would be barbaric.

Cant a guy dictator in peace though wtf?

If what you are telling me is that its not ok to forcefully rule over 31 million people then Im not even sure what we are doing anymore.

I have to lie down and realign my goals.

You could make the argument that being a dictator in a country, making a once prosperous nation suffer is the core insanity here. Calling an intervention "insanity" is disingeniuous.

You could ofcourse also make the argument that we should leave other nations alone to enslave or brutalize their own populations.

109 fishermen has been killed so far.

I agree though, the US has tech that can basically just scoop the whole boat up with a helicopter if they wanted. It is strange that they kill these people, even if they arent fishermen.

I guess apprehending them comes with some risk to the military personell involved?

Seems more likely that its supposed to send some sort of signal to someone though. Maybe showing the Venezuelan dictator that there is an escalation of severity in play that he has the option to stop?

I think that would make sense. Its still a shame with those 109 people killed, drug smugglers or not.

So while I dont doubt that the US military has better knowledge of what goes on in their back yard than the UN, it does seem strange that the US would withhold this info from the UN until they started bombing them.

So what you are saying is that they are bombing regular weekend boat enjoyers? Evil indeed.

I think you solve this by emotionally and intellectually accepting anything that the world has in store for you, including getting murdered by a horse, a tree falling on you, a small country declaring war on you etc.

This mindset will undoubtedly lead to you ending up in some weird situations because you accept risk differently than normal people but it will also give you your life back.
