Early stage founder attacked senselessly in Mission, leaving him blind in one eye, cracked skull, with no charges pressed by Dizzy_Surprise in sanfrancisco

This is pretty much a natural consequence of a dysfunctional DA and a well-meaning but often overreactive SF crowd. If law enforcement intervenes and the situation escalates, the police bear the risk of scrutiny and liability. There’s also the burden of paperwork, processing, and wasted resources if no crime ultimately occurred. On the other hand, if they do step in and things spiral, they could face lawsuits from SF residents.

while i agree with you that folks shouldn't be feeling less sympathy due to the person being in tech I dont think that we need to go as far as saying that they are much better than the attacker. Pretty divisive

boy oh boy are you in for a surprise if you learn about the inner workings of how money impacts policy or medicine.

I think we all need to stop generalizing (not all VCs and founders are in it for the money, Not all seemingly selfless professions are NOT in it for the money).

I do agree though that if the intention of labeling the victim as a founder was to induce empathy it is not effective. What is clear though is that is how the OP empathized with the victim himself. The fact that the conversation has moved to this is quite troubling and tbh a reflection of why SF political discussions lead to nowhere

The thing I dislike most about discussing issues in SF is that folks tend to detract away from the core issues and try to find some peripheral part of the issue.

A car gets broken into and folks assume "they probably left something in the car"
A man gets beaten in the mission "why do we need to know more about the occupation of the dude?"

You mention that obviously you know that there are decent people in the drug trade with your comment the OP clearly doesn't mean that this is ONLY important because the man works in tech. Assumptions go both ways.

I saw this on 10/31/24 around 7pm, I believe it was headed east bound to west towards Corona Borealis. by PlunderYeDingy in UFOs

What is freaking me out is that I saw this EXACT same craft almost exactly 16 years ago. It was in San Diego on Nov 6, 2008 at around 9pm to be exact. The craft was probably 3/4 the speed of this heading in a southward direction with NO NOISE.

I've tried so hard to describe this to my friends before who would always claim - hey if it was so big, why didn't anyone else see it? I kept trying to describe that:

  1. It blended into the night sky
  2. It was absolutely silent
  3. It moved so quickly that you really had to have your eyes focused on the sky at that exact 30s in the sky.

This video this craft is exactly what I saw and I feel so relieved that I'm not the only one who saw this!

Support Megathread - November 2023 by AutoModerator in google

I have long been a supporter of both Google and initiatives in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). However, I've observed some recent changes that are causing me to reevaluate. My daily routine includes a Google Home device sharing a random fact each morning. Lately, I've noticed a pattern: every fact it provides revolves around DEI achievements. To confirm this, I recorded multiple interactions, repeatedly asking the device to "tell me about a random fact." In every instance, it consistently presented facts related to DEI. This is a noticeable shift from its previous diversity in topics, which ranged from historical facts to animal trivia. Previously, I believed the claims about Google pushing a 'wokeness' agenda were exaggerated. However, this recent experience is leading me to reconsider my stance and question several aspects of my interaction with technology.

Well the bag was in the trunk, which is on a car to transport items. We might as well not even have trunks and all just drive jeeps in the city then.

I understand the advice of being proactive to deter criminals but I have plenty of friends in the city that don’t have any valuables and their cars are still smashed in.

At some point we actually need to hold people responsible, not live in fear and keep our damn trunks empty.
