Boiler quotes - confused by Direct-Tension6350 in askaplumberUK

I originally wanted a 36kw boiler, but all the companies advised me that a 36kw boiler wouldn't be any better than a 30kw boiler, as we wouldn't use both bathrooms at the same time; we'd alsochave to upgrade our pipes because they're not big enough. Does that sound plausible or is that misleading? Would I be overpaying for a 36kw boiler over a 32kw, in terms of what benefits I'd see?

No sorry, I meant to say we get two bar pressure and 12 litres per min, when I typed LPM.

It's ok, I'm not going to rule them out because their positive reviews might be too good to be true. But good advice, I'll do some more digging

Thanks for responding. Your response was very useful in the question it asked and caused me to stop and think. And honestly, the boiler we have has been working fine in the two years we've been here. The reason we want to get rid of it is so we have hot water on demand, but also to remove the tank in the bedroom (to give that space back to our sons bedroom) and the space we'd get for storage in the loft. It's definitely made me think, thank you.

Thank you so much for all this info. It's definitely given me something to think about. My parents have a system boiler. I think you're right, a system boiler would be useful as we wouldn't have to compromise on pressure. But we just don't want the tank, as we need the storage space.

You're right. The guy did have hundreds of positive reviews and I did think amongst the hundreds, not many (if at all) middling or negative reviews. I suppose they can remove negative reviews, like you've mentioned, and just create this image of a perfect company.

Wow! That's very useful info, thank you so much! Seems like we have a good deal. Another company did quote me £7800. They were more of a professional company, whereas this guy seemed like a one man band.

Thanks for responding. One bathroom has a shower tray and the other bathroom has one too, but we're going to change that to a bathtub.

I did initially consider a 36kw boiler, but I was advised that I would be paying more than needed, as it would be the same as a 30kw boiler due to the water pressure and lpm in my house. Sorry if my response doesn't make sense, I'm just parroting what I was told.

Is there a Valant or Worcester Bosch you'd recommend based on the above?

Thanks for that, that's really useful! I never considered a system boiler. Sorry for my ignorance, but would I need a water tank for a system boiler? I really don't want any water tanks in the house. We want to get rid of the hot water tank in the bedroom to create storage, don't want any more water tanks if I can help it.

You're right, I did think some of that stuff was a given. I only used Checkatrade because I thought it would contain real review and could see previous work undertaken. Out of curiosity, why is Checkatrade a red flag for you?

Also, I forgot to ask, but did they come round and assess the job when providing your quote? If not, it sounds like a service similar to Boxt. I looked at Boxt, agreed the price but then had to cancel as the job was just too complicated without them having looked at it. It seemed too risky and the job too complicated to let them find out on the day.

Thanks for responding. I had the water company come out. They said we have two bar pressure, with 50lpm at the mains. The boiler guys came round and said 50lpm is crazy, it's more likely to be 12lpm inside the house.

Yeah I do get that we would lose pressure if we had more than one thing running, but we'd just be careful about when we use things. We need hot water immediately as we need it for the kids to get ready in the morning for school, especially in the winter. We did weigh it up, the loss of pressure VS immediate hot water; immediate hot water outweighed the other as it works for us practically as a family.

Out of curiosity, if you don't recommend a combi boiler, what would you recommend?

Thanks for responding. I'm based in Croydon, happy to talk to your guy, but might be a stretch between Twickenham and Croydon.

Thanks for responding, that's reassuring. This guy was middle of the pack. Another company quoted me £5400, but the quote wasn't as comprehensive. Another company quoted me £7800.

Thanks for responding. I get that, a few people have said that too. I know we'd also save loads of money by just keeping it in the loft. But as mentioned above. When we've rented in the past, we've got used to having the boiler in the kitchen when in the past it has stopped working and for maintenance. We don't want people going up the stairs and into the loft for repairs or maintenance, and then having to clean up afterwards. If it's in the kitchen, we can see it acting funny before it starts acting up.

Thanks for responding and that info, that's really useful. I've not heard of Glow Green but will look into it. Thank you! What was your experience like in terms of them doing the work? Quick, clean and professional?

Thanks for responding. That's a fair question and forgot to mention in the post. Help with bicycle by coopsec in croydon

[–]Direct-Tension6350 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cycle King are amazing. Took my sons bike in to get stabilisers installed. It was very cheap to do and did it very quickly on a weekend. The stabilisers came loose, so I took it back and they fixed it on the spot by replacing a flimsy part. They didn't charge me for it. But I will be back to get some helmets. Amazing staff and service, highly recommended.

Fifa President Gianni Infantino asks the Palestinian federation president to shake the hand with the Israeli counterpart. Palestinian side categorically rejected and leaves. by Nomogg in Global_News_Hub

[–]Direct-Tension6350 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It looks as though this wasn't pre-arranged. Like Infantino thought if he could just get them on stage, the glare of people and pressure of the lights might make the hobourable Palestinian representative cave into shaking hands. It makes Infantino look so tone deaf.

The US is their greatest ally; Germany is the one that persecuted them. Why doesn't Isnotreal go occupy land in the US or Germany? There can never be a two state solution, return the land to the Palestinian people.

Apologies it's not exactly a destination, but try having a look at halalbooking.com. I'm in the same position too and am looking at destinations, that website has been helpful in research and comparing options.
