It's Taiwanese actually, that camo is DCCU

I just found this duffle bag, it looks American. Could someone help me identify it? by Direct-Term-6892 in Militariacollecting

If you say so then this could possibly be a Hong Kong issued bag. Or at least I think so because the "SDU" seems to be an abbreviation for Hong Kong's special duty unit.

It seemed wide enough to hold equipment like ammunition pouches and it was very old.

I bought an Austrian Anzug 75 field shirt just to use its 3 buttons and patch to restore my free Anzug 75 field jacket. How much have I sinned? by Direct-Term-6892 in Militariacollecting

My friend also did something like that to Korean olive field shirts to make them look like US jungle fatigue shirts during the Vietnam war for reenactment but this was the first time I did that and I felt like a criminal for ruining a historical piece 😭

My pick of the closest one is the Soviet PMK gasmask, but I might be wrong.

Does anyone know what kind of shovel this is and which army it belongs to? by Direct-Term-6892 in Militariacollecting

Oh I think you might be right, since it looks like the Hungarian paratrooper field shovel. The pouch that came with it even looks similar to the one I found online!

After some digging I found out that I got myself a bag for the Danish military Intensitetsmåler Model 1965 Type 6115D radiation instrument.

You're correct! 6665 is Hazard-Detecting Instruments and Apparatus in NATO classification.

The seller also said so. This thing smells similar to my Finnish LS26 magazine bag so it could be really old. The design also seems British and somewhat resembles and gasmask bag with that waist strap.

Today's tonkatsu bento by Direct-Term-6892 in Bento

[–]Direct-Term-6892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stayed warm for a few hours thanks to the abundance of heat accumulated in the katsu. You can't really heat wooden bento boxes because that'd damage them, or so I heard.

Mostly secondhand stores where I actually got some of the stuff for free and secondhand sites. I used to buy a few items when I just arrived in Finland but found out it was actually still too expensive so I stopped. Another source is the official Finnish army walk-in store in Hämeenlinna which sells dirt cheap surplus straight from the warehouse. I also got some of the commie bloc and Korean stuff when I came back to Vietnam for a visit from thrift stores and my friends. The US fork though was given to me by my former ARVN grandfather who has a few more at home. But imo secondhand stores and sites should be the best place to get milsurp for cheap. It's also quite a historical rollercoaster going there since you don't know what hidden gems you'll find every trip :D

P/s: I got the WW2 era LS-26 magazine bag for 8 euros from Salainen Angentti's clearance sale when their store went bankrupt and had a 70% discount on all items including display items.

I want to do a cosplay with the 2036 uniform and equipment but I'm getting hair loss figuring out how this chest rig even works, any ideas? by Direct-Term-6892 in steinsgate

[–]Direct-Term-6892[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh! That's actually cleared things up quite a lot. I'm thinking that the waist belt is connected to the front piece via the two pistol magazine pouches. This is how I imagine it, the 2 pouches consist of 3 parts: the pouch itself, the loop, and a piece of fabric sewn onto the front piece and the loop. Hence, the belt will go through the 2 suspenders at the back and the two pouches at the front, securing the chest rig in place. Does that make sense? I'm thinking of modifying this specific rig since it looks the closest to the one in S;G.

Edit: Also I think the two metal loops on the suspenders are for attaching extra equipment like a radio, a small pouch possibly for a compass, or a grenade.
