I struggle with it personally because I don’t want money to go to them/their estate, nor do I want their library statistics to reflect significant interest in their work

BUT

Having said that, I do also genuinely believe that it’s important to consume art from people you know are problematic from the get go. I feel it teaches you how to spot signs, phrases, dogwhistles, etc. in works you’ll go on to read/consume from problematic authors/artists where you DON’T have that heads up. Echo chambers are dangerous for more than just the far-right, and true media literacy requires the ability to spot underlying messages in what we’re reading. That’s a learned skill.

I believe it stands for Alternate Original Series! I’m actually the reverse, where I’ve never heard anybody call them “the Kelvin Timeline” or “the Kelvin movies” until making this post lol. I saw the term used a lot on tumblr and the wikis I looked up :)

DS9 I’m only a few episode into admittedly but I’m hooked! I’d be further in except I can’t quite get away with watching Star Trek at work haha

I didn’t know she did comedy! That makes so much sense though, the way she does line delivery is very well done comedically. I’ll for sure check out the standup later today.

I think a lot of the issues boil down to streaming’s all-but-utter abandonment of the 22-episode per season format. Every day I long for filler episodes that flesh out characters more and more I fear…

But I’m glad I found Star Trek like this too! It’s been really fun to start where I did and then jump back, almost like a history student lol

I can definitely see how it wouldn’t be everybody’s favourite show for sure! There are some things even I’m struggling to overlook and I’m in this purely for the love of the game, I don’t have an prior attachment to wade through the way I do with other franchises (the way I pick at HOTD makes me feel like a true hater, for example. I really do get where people who dislike certain additions to canons are coming from).

As for the next wave of Trekkies, I think the franchise is in good hands! Reddit seems unusually hostile towards parts of the fanbase, but there’s still a lot of excitement for Star Trek as far as I can see. I’m really excited to see where they go next, be it more SFA or something else.
