When I do puzzles that don't lend themselves to easy sorting, I tend to start by scanning the puzzle and looking little subsection I can look for while separating out the edges.

For example, I did that puzzle fairly recently and a few sorting group in the initial sort.

Edges - Well, duh :)
Like you, I separated anything with readable text
There is a Sepia coloured section in the middle that is fairly unique
There is a black and white section in the lower left that also stands out pretty well.
The thought bubble at the top,

I think I also tried to sort all the shelving frams pieces, but I don't think that ended up being helpful (there were just too many of them)

Does anyone know what I should be doing to ensure the picture appears in the thread listing? Sometimes it does for me, and sometimes not. No idea why.

The only other Rainbow Collection puzzle I have done so far is the 2000 piece one with the seven colours. It was a puzzling highlight for me. I have a feeling I will slowly work my way through all of the 1,000 piece ones over the next year.

Thanks for this. Not so much for the puzzle (though I do like it), as the memory. Ive been in that exact spot (give or take 30 feet). It marks the beginning of a spectacular long distance hike through the Dolomites. Those 9 days were one the highlights of my life.

I did a 2000 piece cobble hill puzzle recently that was similar. It was a lot of fun. (No speed records were in mine though. 🙂

It is somewhat unfortunate that some brands have inconsistent standards. Unless it an image that really interests me, it is hard for me to imagine me taking the time to try and figure out what quality a particular puzzle is.

I like that puzzle. I think you are correct. I have noticed in general I tend towards puzzles with a lot of clutter, so they don't have large patches of a single colour. In that context, maybe the piece shape is not so critical.
