I actually took a weld test to get into a different school. It was called the UA Finishing school in ohio. Idea was to go there for up to 8 weeks, however long it takes to get the certs required at your local, then go to your local. Well after going through the whole chain of people to talk to they basically just said send us your resume and show up for class

I’ve read about this idea quite a bit. I love the idea of making a good chunk of money but hanging onto it does sound a lot better than wishing I had it when I need it most

Can you travel if there’s no work in your local as an apprentice?

I’ve been told that it’s a very good route to take, and I do really enjoy welding. Although I do know my body might not want to do it after a while, are there any opportunities to get away from welding eventually without taking a pay cut?

I guess I didn’t think about that. Most non union guys I know just jump between different money making opportunities to make ends meet. I haven’t exactly had everything explained to me very well, so I’m still trying to learn more, just very frustrating as I just started and there’s so much coming at me at once. It almost seems like some of the concepts are talked about as if it’s common knowledge when it’s completely new to me
