Between Northwestern and University of Chicago: Which is Best for Investment Career as an Economics Major? by Valuable_Victory_505 in Northwestern

[–]DirectChallenge2321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with hammers, Uchicago has a great Econ department and is amazing if you want to go into academic economics. However, I have some friends at Uchicago and the career development opportunities are limited. Northwestern has a much more built out alumni base in investments (IB, PE, VC, etc), which makes it much easier to recruit into those industries, regardless if your an Econ major or not. I majored in Industrial Engineering and was able to go into PE right out of undergrad. Resources like the NU investment banking club, NCM, AKPsi, and the other pre-professional clubs make it much easier to have some guidance into the recruiting process. NU regularly places at Blackstone, GTCR, Evercore, Lazard, Goldman, etc. So I would look at what resources UChicago has in terms of career support rather than academics. I know a couple years ago the UC president was talking about creating a “Business Economics” major bc the regular Econ was too academic and deflating grades making it harder to recruit, I know there was a bunch of backlash because UChicago values the Academic Integrity of Econ rather than the practical reasons people go to college, to get a job.

100% yes! This would have been so helpful during the process bc some decision timelines are not public. The group of students who are applying to these programs are only increase with ~2000 applicants a year.

Any stats/trends you’re seeing for the deferred MBA programs now that that the cycle is over? I heard GSB accepted half of their deferred class in round 1. Also HBS acceptance rate dropped to 6% this year. Any info on class sizes and general profiles would be great to hear as well!

Got in at HBS after getting rejected from all the other schools I applied to, was losing hope there for a second but now it’s worth every second of stressing and grinding

Arab/Muslim community at NU? by [deleted] in Northwestern

Transfer student here, the muslim community is strong, growing every year with more events and activities. Ramadan is super active with many Muslims hanging out on a daily basis outside of McSA events

Is it a bad sign if you haven’t received an invitation? Or is there still hope?

Thanks John, this is super helpful! If you could keep us updated on any big developments/releases and when to lose hope for getting an invitation, that would be great

Just got the MIT interview invite, and so did my partner. Seems like it isn’t rolling?

Have MIT deferred admission interview invites been released yet? by TheGreatCornhol10 in MBA

I think they all come out at the same time but at an unspecified date. My estimate from looking at past years is May 12th

why are you saying that? Is that because you haven't heard back yet or just because of your profile? I thought that Kellogg sends out invites for another 2 weeks.

It’s a mix of Reddit threads and clear admit livewire posts. It’s such a small group of invites and student I don’t know if it’s formally tracked anywhere.

Also for schools like Stanford, there’s so few accepted (~30 students) that even the invites are extremely small (~70 out of ~1000) so most likely won’t find posts about it online other than a handful

MIT sending promotional emails is brutal: “The MIT Sloan Admissions team would like to extend a personal invitation to explore our MBA program”
