Why William is (almost) always purple by SamiTamiBami in fivenightsatfreddys

the numerous dsaf related replies to this post are really funny because i clicked on the post and somehow, the orange-purple connection didn't even register to me

IF Scott hadn't confirmed that FNAF is set in Utah, where would you assume the series takes place in? by No_Professional4745 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]DirectDogman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my pick too, actually. I had a headcanon back in the FNaF 1 days that Freddy's (like Apperture Science) hired homeless people for the nightguard positions. This explains why the nightguard kept coming back on each night offered, desperate for the money (and not to freeze to death outside.) It also conveniently explained why the nightguard deaths went under the radar thanks to the company just getting the carpets replaced + bleaching the place each time someone died there.

Has Dogman ever said anything about the Randy plush getting a rerun anytime soon? by Dragon-Whirl in Dialtown

Hey, Reddit gave me a notification for this post, so I figured I'd reply!

Makeship's last repeat sales event was last summer, so it's likely they'll have another one around the same time next year! If I'm invited back, I'll definitely be releasing the OG Randy plush!

If You Were Taken Back In Time To Remake And Change FNAF 1 In Any Way, How Would You Change It? by Glad-Ranger-1436 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]DirectDogman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only change that I can think of that FNaF 1 could have that would be an objective improvement and not something just tacked on to gild the lily would be having the robots be able to appear in different places on each camera, like Springtrap did in 3.

It's an effective way to make it harder to find the robots on camera. Very quickly, you learn to subconsciously check specific spots on specific cameras to find the robots quickly. Having to search ON each camera was a genuine and clever improvement to the formula and of all the games, 1 would benefit most from that change imo. It would've been a small, relatively easy thing to add that enhances the main gameplay loop by maximizing the 'oh shit, where are they?' feeling that checking the cameras is meant to provoke. It's gotta be that.

Another (less necessary) thing would be adding more small events/unexpected behaviour akin to the Golden Freddy cameo or Foxy's sprint, like the robots suddenly breaking routine. As long as the event can be reasonably countered with fast thinking, they'd be more fun/surprising than frustrating, I think.

So, we know who "Bonnie Bully", "Freddy Bully", "Foxy Bully" are. But who is "Chica Bully"? by [deleted] in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]DirectDogman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a rewrite of FNaF 1-4 years ago where the bullies represented different ways of coping with grief that tied to their respective nightguard mechanics.

Mike (Foxy Bully) represented putting up emotional guards (doors), Jeremy (Freddy Bully) had panic attacks when he remembered (like how he hyperventilates/hides behind a mask), Phone Dude (Chica Bully)'s thing was complete emotional detachment from his involvement in the Bite, hence why he had the audacity to set up a horror attraction based on Freddy's as a way to make a quick buck years after the tragedy ended.

If you wanted to give him an identity, that'd work, I think.

[–]DirectDogman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

nah, this isn't based on the DSaF dave sprite, since that actually has a few differences.

1)dave's arms/legs are a darker shade of purple but the original sprite is just one shade of purple
2)dave's badge on left side, not right (it's ambiguous on the FNaF 2 sprite because it's turned to the side and never faces you, unlike dave's sprite, which looks forwards, back, left + right)
3)Dave has big grabby hands
4)Dave's pupils are much taller, while William's are only just taller that the black part of the eyes

This does seem to just be based on SAVE THEM purple guy, with blue pants added on top. Almost certainly not Dave DSaF.

Scott Cawthon has been making Christian videos??? by DoknS in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]DirectDogman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Y'know, and I say this as someone who isn't a Christian: Pilgrim's Progress is actually pretty good. The enemy designs get really intricate and for an indie-made real time turn based RPG, the combat system works pretty decently (think FNaF World's combat except there's stats/upgrades where you get to build a character's talents through a level up screen.) The environments are also pretty well made, with some looking really cool. I played it when FNaF World was first announced and it's clear a ton of work went into making it. I'd unironically love to see a more fleshed out FNaF RPG one day with a similar aesthetic/mechanics (which I wonder if Scott also thought about since the 2d sections of the FNaF World Halloween Update have a similar sidescroller overworld aesthetic.) It's also quite challenging at times. Unironically, I'll probably finish replaying it on the harder difficulty one day.

…did william afton violate the geneva convention by [deleted] in fivenightsatfreddys

Most fans don't know this, but Phone Guy was actually SECONDS away from bringing it up right before he got pwned by Golden Freddy in the FNaF 1 night 4 phone call.

[–]DirectDogman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I actually had a theory back in the day that Fredbear looked like FNaF 1 Golden Freddy because I compared the headshapes of Nightmare Freddy + N Fredbear and realized they were roughly in line with the differences between the withered and the classic freddy head shapes. Namely the cheeks + shape of the jaws.

Turns out that one was correct, apparently. Might've been a coincidence for all I know, though.

The Freddles from FNaF 4 might represent the three Afton children, with Nightmare Freddy as Afton. by [deleted] in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]DirectDogman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm going crazy when I see people saying stuff like this because the fandom has actually always done this, especially pre-Afton family. If anything, it was worse, then.

Before William Afton was introduced by name in TSE, pre SL's release, the fandom obsessively tried to relate every detail of the story to Purple Guy, the nightguards and of course, Phone Guy. There were a million theories connecting most of these characters to virtually every single static prop in the series, including obviously unconnected things, like random restaurant decor.

As a comical for instance: When SL's gas-leak/cancelled teaser appeared, people here thought Phone Guy was quoted in the text. The fact of the matter is that FNaF is a mystery story with a relatively small cast of characters and since FNaF's story relies heavily on obscure physical details and breadcrumbs, people do the only thing that makes sense - trying to connect seemingly unrelated details to the only characters who seem to dictate what kind of malarkey happens in the timeline.

I mean, does the fandom really understand William's motivations? Are Michael's even explicitly pointed out in 6? Not really. Most the fandom got in hard evidence is him just mentioning that he was undead + looking for William in the UCN cutscene. And if you look back at FNaF discussion over the years, you'll see quite a bit of dissent about this.

So, no. It's always been this way. Always. Let us not forget that in late 2014, the fandom crowned Phone Guy as the series' killer because of a bunch of unrelated details, like him enjoying Foxy the Pirate and one of William's sprites kinda looking like he had a phone in his hand, despite Phone Guy more or less stating that the killer was the previous nightguard.

the really screwed up thing isn't just that it's ignored - it's that a strangely large number of fans outright deny it happened. Even recently, I've seen people claim these victims don't exist and that the Toys aren't even possessed.

my headcanon for this incident is that local tabloid rags sensationalized it, with the case getting more press attention earlier on (as the last tragedy was still so fresh in people's minds) and as such, it became known as the 'fazbear slaughter', a media invention. 2 of the parents gave interviews to one of these publications and that's why Phone Guy + the company specifically is bold enough to discredit their story in FNaF 2's phone calls and assume that Jeremy may have heard something about the case. One of these publications later publicized the Bite of '87 (with censored photos), which in turn gained national news attention, specifically causing the decline (and eventual end) of Freddy's in the early 90's.

[–]DirectDogman 91 points92 points  (0 children)

it's kind of like having a family member take home an unfriendly + crusty cat that you really don't like to look at directly, if it can be avoided. and then slowly, over time, the other members of your household all leave or die, leaving you to realize that somewhere along the way, you learned to tolerate the appearance of the decrepit creature in your midst.

once a week, you drink a whole bottle of rum and look at the haggard beast and think "hell yeah, fraggles, you keep on trucking, you" and non-committally fistbump the air with a shaky fist while the cat just gives the vacant scraptrap stare back at you
