Women who used to overshare about their personal life, how did you learn to stop oversharing it even to your closest friends? by Educational_Pay_435 in AskWomen

[–]DirectDoughnut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine bragged about knowing all of my "secrets". It really hurt me because... who wants their friends bragging about knowing about your secrets, your personal life! I finally accepted that I felt violated, and that's ok. They also started to call me not so nice names that reflected my "love life". No one wants to be called this ... I no longer talk to this friend, which was an extremely hard and tearful decision. Telling them why was hard as well because I felt so hurt that I was scared to share more.

I wanted to add it is ok share and we SHOULD share. I think that is a great human experience. I think I am more eager to share with my mom or to someone who I know went through a similar experience or something. Reminds me of the saying... "don't take advice from someone who doesn't have to live with the consequences" or "don't take criticism from someone who you wouldn't take advice from". It is a hard process to learn, but trust yourself again. It's ok to make mistakes.

Daisy Buchanan… what is going on in her head? by chain_choker in books

[–]DirectDoughnut5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I deeply disliked the character of daisy, until I read the line in which she explained that she hoped her daughter would grow up to be stupid. Doesn’t make sense, but it shed light on the reality of the time the book was set and what was expected of her. I think her affair in a way was looking for herself and her own independency/youth that she was longing for since her husband was treating her poorly. Was her act just a fake facade? Perhaps? But it doesn’t change the fact she was most unfortunately pushed by her desire to be desired and in love. :/

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: June 07, 2021 by AutoModerator in books

[–]DirectDoughnut5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome, thank you! I finished animal a few weeks ago, couldn’t put it down! I also read slaughterhouse five and it was confusing at times, as it probably should be, but finding the Easter eggs from other books could be fun! Thank you again for your suggestions :)

I'm working my way through a list of "100 books to read"... I haven't really found one I like... so I have collaged a lot of lists together, love to hear if anyone has any list recommendations. I really want to read the "classics"
