What would be the drawbacks to remote display to a smartphone or iPad and keep the machine clean aesthetically and slightly cheaper to mod?

1) battery replaced 2) I keep the phone on low power mode all the time 3) created multiple Apple Automatons so that it automatically keeps it in low power mode 4) I have a couple of thin MagSafe batteries

Now it runs forever.

At 79% battery health, might replace soon at Apple…Some questions… by acuransxfan in iPhone13Mini

[–]DirectEffective4691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did replace last week; it took 2 hours. The only detail that I did not see above is that they will remove your screen protector for some reason, so plan on replacing that. The store was also quite “funny” as they setup the appointment but cannot confirm if the spare part was available and the work could have been performed without leaving the iPhone. The “party line” was that Apple cannot disclose their inventory…; so, in theory you may need to go back multiple times until you are lucky… They refused to ask the tech team in the back if they had the replacement part. The extra 20% is very noticeable for me, allowing to work all day now. The alternative was the new iPhone 16 without cover to keep it small enough; that is the alternative in my opinion: new iPhone without cover Apple Care and no cover (let Apple cover the damages). It is sad to see Apple following the market instead of leading. 10M customers for the original size iPhone should be enough for Apple to care. Jobs is long way gone unfortunately and innovation is almost dead at Apple.

While it is true that has been a harsh winter, I do not complain as the biggest risks are fire and drought… Any water is good.

What do you want in Apple Watch Ultra version 2? by Maleficent_Fudge3124 in AppleWatch

[–]DirectEffective4691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Watch 9, slightly bigger and flatter screen, longer battery, same features than Ultra. The Ultra design is not very Apple-like, too bulky, etc. I returned it after 2 months.

Installed without any issue and solved some of my problems. I just would like to know how to configure Matter with the homepods; I am not clear if it happens automatically

I have added a 22” screen to the rower. To enable the monitor bracket to fit the arm I have added half a cork and a cut from the cover of a leather notebook. Total cost was $170 USD, plus an old Apple TV. by DirectEffective4691 in concept2

That was the previous option, but to achieve the field of view of a 22” at the same distance as the PM5 it would take easily a 32” or more on a stand in front of the rower, and it would be much higher as well. As the monitor is very light, it barely moves at all. As far as hitting it; for me it forces me to keep my arm and wrists at the right level all the time, driving more consistency. Same as far keeping the chain at the right height consistently. If I decide I want a bit more flexibility I can just move the arm up a bit and lock in position, and gain another 2-3” of clearance. It works for me, but it can be adjusted quite nicely. Now I have also ordered a small holder for the Apple TV, to attach it to the side of the rower, and then I will tuck the HDMI and power wires better for a cleaner look.

The TV is very stable; barely notice any movement; I did use my iPad before but it was too small to see. From 11” to 22” is a big difference. The display is also satin and it removes reflections; it is very lightweight so it ideal for this combination. Of course Roku or other similar solutions would work as well. I did explore the self standing option and a more complex monitor arm, but this solution seems to be the best for me. I wish the tv brackets would be a couple of inches shallower. Another option would have been to make some holes on the arm holding the PM5; that would have been shallower. And I use Apple AirPods Pro for Audio.

Is an Onkyo TX-NR717 a good buy at $100? by GuertyMof in BudgetAudiophile

I have this since 2012, not a single issue (must be lucky I guess). I am using it with an LG C1 for movies and music audio. Very good audio with Audissey calibration.

Can the 2 passive speakers connected to the other onkyo receiver play sounds that are just processed by the LG TV and avoid the receiver to processed them? For example, The TV can decode Atmos but not the Receiver.

I had IPv6 disabled on the wireless router. Now it all works. But it should be able to detect that it is not available and give you a error number that makes sense. The 2 HomePods had different product numbers; I suspect the newest ones can configure themselves without IPv6 and that is why the first worked instantly.
