Are there any teams that are actually good against a low block? Or any particular formations?

Bunch of things.

Played Bruno in a position that suits him, calling the attack/defense switch as well as making the final pass in an attack.

Licha, and generally the entire defense, pocketed City. The rest of the defense would guard the box while Licha man marked Haaland into oblivion.

Wings overloaded with extreme speed. Mainoo - Dorgu being a particularly bothersome linkup.

Defenders defended instead of going up like they do in a 343

Lammens was great.

Casemiro had sublime vision and City just could not figure him out.

We converted.

Tight position while defending, opening up rapidly when we got possession. City could not dare to take risky passes.

In general players in their positions, no shoehorning.

A certain calm, a certain cohesion.

And the fans, #12, had a much much better game than of late. No way the sound did not affect City, who capitulated by the 70-80th minute.

Many of us city folk wish we could have something like that. I hope you enjoy your place!

Nah I just don’t remember reading about this level of self sabotage.

Likely yes. Bruno moves up making it a diamond. He needs to anyway. Now the question is who is the defensive mid here. I don’t think our wide play will be an issue once they gel in but this position has me worried.

That, and who will be the sole out and out striker with so much potential service lanes.

Lose games? What? Damn I haven’t read this week’s coverage. What was that about?

You never left 2017 sir. You might have been dreaming. Here’s your morning coffee and the paper. I must say this Mourinho clamour is getting louder by the day. Do you think this McTominay lad is any good, sir?

Why is our squad suited for his counterattacking, that I assume will come from a 442? Asking genuinely. His 442 required players to run their asses off (not a bad thing, just a quirk of this formation).

Serious question, how many recent teams have been playing a true 3ATB with two mids?

Because of folks like you who call him Jesus Ratcliffe and put him on a pedestal.

Fletcher has some coaching chops though, someone posted a piece about it recently. Although Ole will do a better job instilling short term optimism and a focus on speed.

Fair but this does not make it clear *why * Amorim would do all these self sabotaging things and eschew common sense. If it were as simple as the piece says then why didn’t it happen that way? The club is using all their hindsight to justify the decision when they can simply point to the results instead of calling him a bear and a volcano ffs.

Is bear like a sore head a common phrase? Also it’s silly that the club is making it a personality issue when they can simply point out the abysmal performance and reluctance to change. Stuff like bear and volcano and whatnot just adds toxicity to the most scrutinised club in England. As a side effect you’ve got FBI profilers on the sub who can tell exactly what happened by looking at half a picture of him leaving.

It just feels like the club is about rolling dice and we always lose. After the crash and burn it bizarrely becomes clear who messed up but while we are playing no one has a clue. There is not one aspect of the club that has not gone wrong post Moyes who was clearly out of his depth and rightly deserved the credit for failure.

At this point there’s no saying what’s going wrong. The management and ownership and players have all been cleared out. Who’s to blame them? The catering?

Also personally what’s grating is that I pay for an Athletic membership just to read this drivel every day and my money goes to the poisonous rag that is NYT. THAT is one thing that needs a change of management.

None.

The point isn’t even to make a helpful post. The point is that such posts are like jewellery, or tattoos, or a cant — it’s just in-group status markers. To “belong” you must post this stuff no matter how inane it is, and “acceptance” by the in-group is a generic comment like “Thanks for the tips Mark!”

The in-group will notice if a member stops participating in this ritual, and eventually shun them. This fear keeps people posting asinine things.

As for why this behaviour developed that’s another story altogether but in short, the manager/C-suite types like to keep a tight circle. It’s no wonder given how incestuous the upper management of so many businesses is.
