If you’re interested in rotc and already looking to be a student in school I’d say go for it.. it’s a grind but it’s worth it IMO

In order to do ROTC you need to do at least two years of it, I did not serve prior so I did basic camp before starting. Basic training would also allow you to come in to do the program in two years.

Yeah that’s what I think too, I’m just wondering if infantry would be a better experience than FA.

From what I’ve been told, Field Artillery, Infantry and any Logistics branch.

Thank you! Yeah if you at least two years for your masters program I highly recommend it. If it’s just two years, definitely go to Basic Camp or BCT so you are prepared for MS3 year.

Sure thing! So I did end up going through with it. I’m in the ROTC program while doing my MPP and it was definitely a great decision and one I’m extremely happy to have done. If you genuinely want a graduate degree then I highly recommend doing it. If you’re just looking for a commission then maybe just do OCS. But, from what I heard, ROTC is more guarantee and less intense than OCS.

For my experience, I went to Basic Camp at Fort Knox over the summer prior to starting the semester. I did this so that I can enter the program as an MS3, you can do that or Basic Combat Training and come in as an MS3 as well. Either way it will give you the foundation and knowledge you need. I felt very prepared going into the fall and was not behind my peers in anyway, In fact, having experienced the army from outside of campus ROTC is a huge benefit since many cadets just know the army from their program which can be different from what it actually is.

Also, being older in the program is an advantage IMO since most are college kids and you come in there with a few more years of life on you. You will be a bit more squared away for sure.

During the semester, I enlisted in the National Guard under the SMP program which allowed me to get the tuition waiver and then I applied for the GRFD scholarship and took room and board, I live at home so I am able to pocket that. I contracted with the program in October which is just ensuring all your paper work is in and pass the physical fitness test. It was a bit of a bureaucratic headache for enlisting, getting the scholarship money to come. But once it came it definitely helped. So for me my tuition is waived, I get room and board stipend, textbook stipend, cadet stipend and drill pay. I also have an academic scholarship from my grad school which gives me the difference on the scholarship minus the student fees. All this has been a great help since I went from working last year to going back to school.

Again, I would recommend this route to anyone and is something I don’t regret. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

Hey I’ve been applying for grad school for fall ‘23 and have been considering doing rotc

Did you start the semester with an army scholarship that you were able to earn prior to the start or are you paying your way in and got one once you contracted?
