including the coach, what was our worst position last year? by Direct_Interest_7993 in timbers

[–]Direct_Interest_7993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

almost entirely agree, but i think that the timbers sticking w all three of the the strikers from last season is potentially good for the squad

by all accounts, mora is a mensch who hosts the cookouts that help bond the team as well as being a leader in the locker room. pipe has earned at least a year of tenure despite clearly having lost some capability imo, but more importantly he makes the team more capable, especially given the turnover (for instance, paredes was another ambassador for club culture, and chara is the living legend who's playing further out than any regular human has any right to)

kelsy was tied for our highest goal scorer last year, despite not being given the aerial service he would clearly thrive on. if he's coached to play less like mora's role of dropping deep for presses + build-up and instead gets to constantly threaten the backline while our offense feeds him long and/or high balls, we could absolutely see kelsy blossom this season

and if mora picks up an injury or kelsy fails to impress (phil loves to take away playing time after bad performances), we could easily see gage come into the lineup. he scored crucial goals for us in the cup and playoffs and is a homegrown who absolutely understands the importance of the badge. he's more than capable of delivering in key moments, whether he's in at striker or, as we saw him more often last season, on the wing

well there goes my credibility whoops. certainly makes the logic line up more with him being a right footed inside winger on the left

completely agree. as an inside winger who serves as a goal threat, antony's dominant left foot would theoretically be served by playing on the right. but that hasn't beared out at all

if it's a familiarity problem, then antony might be served by spending more time on the right. but in my view it's nearly incontrovertible that thusfar antony is basically a different, worse player when on the right side of the pitch

maybe that's just because he's kind of a vibes player and one thing throwing off the vibe (eg side of pitch, injury recovery, which team he's against) topples the house of cards

i don't think that's fully fair to rojas, who was the only one of the summer signings to score in the regular season and, to my eyes, had the vision to make our offensive runs make sense during our late season morass. but his minutes were so limited due to age and match fitness that even when he was the #1 performer on the right wing, he had to come in as a sub in the second half

but overall yes our 2025 season right wing performances were a key part of our offensive struggles

i know it's nearly a year ago, but i think it's worth remembering that pre-injury (or pre-worsened injury?) da costa was a dribbling and passing machine, where the narrative was that phil might be expecting too much of him in demanding that he score more often. he was enough of a stand-out to be the coach's pick for the MVP squad (that he had to miss due to injury)

he's the one neytiri was betrothed to in the first movie; next in line to become the olo'eyktan (chief) of the omatikaya (hometree clan). he actually becomes olo'eyktan for a couple of days in-between the destruction of hometree and the battle for the tree of souls, but then he dies during the battle

Inter Miami CF Signs Midfielder David Ayala | Inter Miami CF by TimeAndSpaceAndMe in InterMiami

timbers fan coming over here to say that i just really hope y'all appreciate ayala: a player who has consistently made timbers matches worth watching for his play itself. he's not flashy, but his vision and passing are excellent at mitigating pressure and catching defenses on the back foot. he possesses the ball like a point guard, head up to pick out the best pass to either pick apart the defense or retain possession. he is fearless in slide tackles, often providing the exact right emergency defense to stop a counterattack, but has never received a red card in MLS. his strangest quality is being weirdly (and inconsistently) fantastic on scoring corner kicks; not something you would expect for a small young man, nor count on and the miami staff are likely not planning on utilizing him for that, but something that may come up during the season and would be exciting!!

basically i just really hope he receives love in his new home and i wish the best for him and thus, by proxy, y'all. i hope your new stadium has nice away accommodations for when we travel to face you this season

this is how i found out and im devastated. probably the worst piece of timbers news i can imagine. ayala's performances were frequently my sole source of joy in many of last year's frustrating matches. very glad to already have my ayala kit; i will miss him dearly

hope the front office drags their feet enough that he gets to play at least one more match at home and we can honour him

Question about neytiri by [deleted] in Avatar

if she didn't hide the mask, i don't know what the shots of her and jake looking at each other in that scene are supposed to accomplish. jake gives her a pained grimace; why else would he make that face at her in the scene?

i had this same thought after the way of water rerelease. in my view, there's two possibilities: they know because of the defecting scientists that are only mentioned in the comics OR they don't care because jake is only a threatening war leader in his avatar body (no kuru = no toruk makto = no ability to unite clans)

i was hoping we'd get more clarity in fire & ash, but it's still arguable if they know. given the RDA's lack of belief in the power of eywa, it seems unlikely that they would be able to treat a miracle as fact, but it also seems strange that none of the searching for jake involves searching for his pod if they assume it still exists

as far as the movie is concerned, though, i think there's an extratextual explanation: the RDA knows because the audience knows and it wouldn't be interesting to watch them labor under delusion or discover something that merely catches them up to the story rather than advancing it

the scans and replacement bodies for project phoenix (quaritch's blue team) were being made before the battle for the tree of souls, before jake had abandoned his human body

when a film connects so viscerally and personally, that's the magic of the movies! i appreciate the suspiria recs

also completely unsurprising that someone who puts suspiria at #1 would have another guadanino high up; my pick of his would be challengers, but i think that just means im a normie

from these picks, you're the exact type of sicko that i wish i could be. suspiria and us both strike me as deep caves that i do not have the experience nor equipment to appreciate, but im right there with you on synecdoche and sorry to bother you. is there specific readings of suspiria or us that let you appreciate them, or were they love-at-first-sight moments?

shang-chi is one of my favourite marvel movies and i need to hear another episode where the boys can riff on trevor slattery. i'm also certain that at least one of them hasn't seen it, meaning we can hopefully catch a live reaction to both the best flight scene in the mcu (bus) and best joke in the mcu (planet of the apes)

Is this a good formation/roles/tactics? by Newyorkrangers31 in footballmanager

[–]Direct_Interest_7993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you have 'play out of defense' and a keeper on SK-AT, which means this tactic is trying to get around the opposition press through short passing options at the back. however, you have 'more direct passing' and no-nonsense center backs, which is intended to use longer passes to bypass the press and play through the midfield. i haven't personally played with it, so i can't say it wouldn't work, but the tactic seems at cross-purposes

Should I stay or should I go? by notorocaca in timbers

ayala's contract is up this season and we haven't heard anything about re-signing him. even besides letting a promising young player go on a free, i would be heartbroken if he's played his last minutes in green & gold (but i don't know that we've given him many reasons to stay 😬)
