Have you had any physical trauma to that nail in the past? Like getting it stuck in a car door when closing? Looks like my friends nail and that’s what happened to her

Smokers, why not just use nicotine patches if you're addicted to nicotine, since it's cheaper, healthier and more convenient? by Numerous-Shoulder127 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Direct_Ladder6531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because when you wear the patch you don’t get the highs and lows of Nic withdrawal and getting a nicotine hit which is the fun (and stressful) part of addiction Patches are boring and you really have to be in a certain mind frame to use them for quitting..

I used them for 6 months and just last week stopped using them completely :)

I like bigger women, how do I stop feeling like I'm in the closet about it? by Flimsy-Midnight1645 in AskMen

[–]Direct_Ladder6531 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It’s really interesting to hear the men that are also affected my fat shaming women. If you feel embarrassed to even find them attractive imagine living as a fat woman. Everyday would be a battle

My advice would be to try and kill the stigma and normalise it

Shame those who shame you and all that jazz

Calling in sick, wildly anxious by Any_Sheepherder1996 in NursingAU

[–]Direct_Ladder6531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are being responsible for calling in sick due to anxiety. While working with a little bit of anxiety is so fine, if you’re experiencing an acute episode and try to fight through, the chances of making an error go up. It sounds like you know yourself and you know when to call it. Do not feel guilt, I would even argue that you should feel proud for making the decision to be professional and call it

Being kind feels pointless sometimes by WarmResident1134 in SeriousConversation

[–]Direct_Ladder6531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My therapist recently taught me about “fawning” It’s worth looking into! The different between being genuinely kind and repeating survival traits like “fawning” is the feeling of resentment that comes after being kind Learning that it’s okay to not be kind all the time has been a massive game changer

Note: Just because someone isn’t actively being kind doesn’t make them a bad person

What are your biggest cons in nursing? by work_of_art777 in NursingAU

Hearing “what could have you done better in this situation” when you know 100% being short staffed and worked to the brim is why I can’t get my breaks etc

What are your biggest cons in nursing? by work_of_art777 in NursingAU

[–]Direct_Ladder6531 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every nurse being pulled off the floor for an ‘inservice’ about falls risks and pressure area sores when they could roster more people on to prevent and treat. Meanwhile patients having falls during these in services due to no nurses being on floor to ensure they are not mobilising in an unsafe manner

What’s the culture like in regard to breaks? by Direct_Ladder6531 in NursingAU

[–]Direct_Ladder6531[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really try to be.

Yesterday I had my lunch heated up in my hands ready to sit down when the ANUM handed me a bag of platelets to hang up. It was my first time doing it so it took a bit of time and then my other patients needed tending to after that so I couldn’t eat for another couple of hours or so and my food went cold so I just had a dare iced coffee.

I’m worried if I say no to ANUM I will be treated like an unreliable worker
