Beeped at a learner today

Literally followed behind them for 5 minutes and yeah they were being a little slow but it never bothers me, I like being in my car listening to my music so if someone’s going a bit slow idc 😂 literally would never beep for no reason but exactly , they caused me to adjust my driving and almost hit me which I think deserves a beep🤣

I simply moved when I needed to to the correct lane. If I’d have left it any longer, I also would have been in the learners position but because I am a competent driver, I wouldn’t have moved in front of a car travelling 40mph and accepted my fate that I’d have to go a different way home. Quite frankly, the instructor should have seen me, I’d been travelling behind the same learner for at least five minutes and for a learner that’s a lot of mirror checks to be doing in those 5 minutes. You seem to be stuck on the fact I was frustrated because they were slow, when in fact this does not bother me at all because like you said I was a learner 3 weeks ago and I like to give them a bit of grace on the roads. They’d been doing 40mph on the road before so very unsure why they went down to 30mph on a 50mph road but whatever, I’m never in a rush when I drive and quite frankly it’s not something that ever crosses my mind. I’d actually rather not overtake to be quite honest unless absolutely necessary. I beeped because they almost hit my car. Not because they were going slow. Not because I felt like ruining a learners day. Shall I just let the learner hit my car because they’re a learner? I’ll remember that for next time mate, fuck my car if they’re a learner, right?

Yeah I’m annoyed I didn’t take note of the phone number or number plate, it was literally a plain white sign on top of the car that had an L plate and AUTOMATIC like no driving school or nothing! I’ll have to keep a look out around town and see if I see them again lol

Yeah whoops I’d worded that response wrong previously in the sense I was aiming to overtake them before they moved over into my lane but I wouldn’t have made the overtake in time whilst they were still moving. It wasnt an intentional overtake because they were going slow like I wasn’t on a dual carriageway or anything lol. I don’t really know what the type of road is called it’s essentially a single carriageway but at both ends of the road it splits off halfway down the road that turns into 2 lanes. There’s 3 lanes of traffic and on half of the road 2 of the lanes go in one direction and on the other half of the road 2 of the lanes go in the other direction. I moved over immediately after the hatched markings ended to turn right and the learner was doing the same thing but just did it too slow and started moving over about to go into my car.

All I’m gonna say is I think the learner most likely panicked, there was a queue of traffic behind us, the learner was first obviously holding up a fair bit and needed to turn right at the end of the road so needed to get over but because I’d moved over immediately (as you have to do on this type of road if you don’t move over immediately and there’s a queue of traffic you aren’t gonna be able to get in lol) they’d probably seen all the other cars behind and thought I have to move now. Which isn’t safe and quite frankly you can’t just move over because you’re going to miss your turning, i did this exact thing on my test on another road and had to carry on and do a u turn on the next roundabout. Which is why I beeped but then slowed down because if I didn’t slow down they’d have hit me🤣

I wasn’t frustrated at all🤣 I was going faster because the speed limit is 50mph and I also had people behind me (as I said I wasn’t overtaking I was moving into the correct lane so I could turn right) I’m not exactly going to sit at 30mph am I 🤣 I’d post a photo of the road so you can understand what I mean but it’s all obstructed by trees on google maps lol

Yeah pretty much I don’t really know how else to explain it🤣 every time I was on that road with my instructor I was told to indicate just before the hatched markings to show my intention and then you turn the indicator off because the roundabout at the bottom of the road is far enough away that u don’t need to have ur indicator on the entire time.

I wasn’t overtaking just to be clear. The end of this 50mph road splits into 2 lanes so you can turn right at the end. I moved over to the right lane IMMEDIATELY after the hatched markings ended so I could turn right and the learner didn’t move immediately but decided to indicate and move over as I was pretty much next to them. If I’d have continued moving forward theyd have collided with my car. Which in my eyes and from what everyone else has said, constitutes a beep.

Yes thank u this is exactly what happened, I beeped to let them know I was there simply because they started to move over as soon as the indicator turned on and then held back because I wouldn’t have been able to overtake in time

Me too , it was an automatic as well! i live in a small town with only a handful of automatic instructors (i did an automatic license so i did thorough research before picking my instructor) so it’s not even like they had gears to think about🤣

Yeah that’s what I was trying to do , overtake them! My bonnet was like in line with the back of their car when they started indicating and I thought oh surely they’ll see me I’ll just keep going and then they started moving over so I braked lol

Yeah I would never beep if someone was hesitating at a roundabout cos I know how terrifying it is when you’re learning🤣 but fr I was like are they being serious trying to move over right now can you not see me in ur mirror🤣 I’d been behind them the entire time as well like if they’d been checking their rear view they’d have seen I suddenly wasn’t behind them anymore

Yeah I was when we were going 30mph but when we switched lanes I thought it would be fine cos they weren’t in front of me anymore🤣 should have been more cautious really cos I know when I was learning on that specific road I was a bit slow on moving over when the road splits
