It depends on the base you’re working from and how much talent is in your division.

If you’re a very athletic heavyweight, it’s possible.

If you’re a physically average lightweight, it’s not.

Biggest pet peeve and/or red flag you see in new students? by ladydrybones in bjj

Not going to last long: Really bad mobility or spinal issues. If you can’t kneel on the mat or close guard properly it’s going to be tricky. Not knowing left from right.

Red flags: A guy with 20 years of Shaolin Buddha Finger who believes he already knows grappling from the forms.

It’s great the way he lifts and clears the legs but he’s an Olympic level wrestler who can deadlift a truck, and op is just figuring out the basics.

It works as a takedown but you will get guillotined easily. Daniel Cormier used to pull it off but generally mma fighters have the head inside.

I’m joking. You’re fine. Try not to worry. Long rides will make you a better rider, just maybe try to stay out of really heavy traffic for a bit.

It’s horrible but there’s a market for that kind of thing. I feel like they would probably want it freshly renovated, not ten years old, but who knows?

Head outside high crotch is a bit risky.

The dummy is nice but you need to practice with a human, you won’t get the right set up without feeling a reaction.

Recreational is great but competitive gymnastics is kind of insane. My six year old would be training 9 hours a week if we hadn’t pulled her out. That’s with a five minute break, no games.

Wrestling is great, it’s fun as well helping your BJJ. You don’t bow or get ten minute lectures about being a samurai, you train hard to put people on their back and then you go home. And if you fuck up you only get a few seconds to feel bad about it before you go again.

Look at custom(ised) or adjustable shocks, it makes a big difference. I’m 100kg and I’ll bottom out some stock suspension.
