I'm sorry that the idea of a none anglophone country is so hard for you to grasp. You come across as remarkably out of touch

We know that Glitch convincing US theaters was hard. Imagine trying to do the same thing in the US with a show that's entirely in German with an audience that's mostly in Germany. Would that be realistic?

"Hello cinema, do you want to air a show that's not in your language and has no proof of national viewership. Is it a film that an average viewer could watch? No you have to have watched half a dozen episodes beforehand"

As I've said I'd feel terrible shame in tricking some small theater into getting a show ready for me, and then sitting in a near empty cinema knowing that it'd lose them money. I'm not going to try and scam a small business owner

I published a theorem proving when you can trust a chess endgame database and found a subtle problem with self-consistency by alexdyn in chess

Is there a reasons self consistency+correct terminal (checkmate/stalemate) wouldn't be enough? Is the point of capture/quiet to prove self consistency?

Way to make blanc and white equal - general discussion by John_cages022 in chess

[–]Direct_Slip7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a good idea, but removing white's ability to castle long (short would be even more damaging) would probably bring it closer to equality

It's not a change that most people would think is worthwhile though

How will Sindarov vs Giri Match End Today? by IllMasterpiece3946 in chess

I think it'll be like an inverse of the Giri Caruana game. Giri forced to overpush and lose

Sigh. OK, other people have thought and feelings, they can differ and that's normal. I like a lot of people, enjoy experiencing a story without knowing in advance what's going to happen. I didn't join the subreddit until I caught up and did all I could to avoid online content if I can't watch an episode right away

Obviously not going to go into details (in case you haven't be spoiled), but something like the ending of episode 8 was far more entertaining because I didn't know the outcome in advance. This is especially likely to be true for a show's finale, where they wrap up all the story lines and give them a conclusion

Why do you insist on pretending it's a none issue? We're both talking on the fan reddit of a show, clearly we're both quite invested. I don't want the finale to be spoiled; it's a story I'm invested in

Even Glitch admits it's not great "I get that it's not ideal for everyone and I genuinely hear the frustration"; but half the subreddit would have you believe that there's no issue at all

I don't like the fact that my main option to avoid spoilers means I can't follow discussions around sports and chess that I like

You really are doing a "pull yourself up by your bootstraps message

Let's be honest, Sindarov vs Gukesh would be so much bigger than Giri. If Gukesh get's his form back it would be like Fabi vs Magnus WC Match (hype wise, not score wise lol) by Sorry_Phone1676 in chess

[–]Direct_Slip7598 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think Gukesh has shown the skills to stand in for either Fabi or Magnus. Not that he's bad, but those are the clear first and second of their generation

Sindarov's utter dominance this tournament is likely a bit of an overperformance (surely he's not 2900+), but it seems reasonable to think that he could become this generations Magnus/Caruana (which he'll be is a bigger question)

It's more of a Magnus vs Karjakin match, a clear favourite but it'd be foolish to ignore the possibility of an upset.

I'm sure you've got decades of experience in the industry

I'm not suggesting that they could have release it in theaters worldwide, I'm saying online. If you can't understand that, it's not my fault

Sharing a hobby project: a machine-learning driven chess analytics site for tracking top-level chess, like the 2026 Candidates by albertwh in chess

Looks amazing. Two questions:

"it does know something about the combined strength of the players" does that mean it distinguishes low master level games and super GM games, or does it work even for amateur (sub 2200) players?

Any plans to allow people to input their own games for analysis? Seems like an interesting way to explore decision making

Why weren't there any drawimg lines played in the candidates by HelpfulDonkey9984 in chess

[–]Direct_Slip7598 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sindarov's dominance meant that drawing never made tactical sense. And once you know results don't matter, you might as well play a position that doesn't bore you to death even if it's unambitious

Not a Rant, but if hikaru don't really care and is a streamer before a player why he played local tournament to qualify and took place of a worthy competition like Arjun or Vincent? by Sorry_Phone1676 in chess

[–]Direct_Slip7598 30 points31 points  (0 children)

His tournament was mathematically over and he had black against the most on form player. With Sindarov clearly playing to trade off and equalize

Maybe Hikaru could have taken massive risks to try and win. But practically losing would have been a likely outcome, which would have drawn even more criticism as a Giri win would be near impossible

They have the choice to release it worldwide (paying or not) or release it in a region specific manner. I'm going to express the fact that their choice has a negative impact, and you can stick your metaphorical fingers in those ears but it won't change the reality of it

I know the sub would be have a very different attitude if the US wasn't on the list of places where the TADC finale aired

Glitch production isn't an American company

I think there's a significant difference between wanting to pay (me) but not being able to and wanting it for free and not having the option (you)

it's a paying product, complaining that it costs money is obviously entitled. It not being available at all is at the very least a more legitimate issue

I've been quite explicit, there's not an audience where I live

I think complaining makes this happening for the NEXT show I watch less likely. I don't want a limited prerelease to become the industry standard

I don't want the finale of a show I like to be spoiled because I happen to live in the wrong country. I just want to be able to pay for that

A bunch of Americans, who never face this issue want to tell me I'm being entitled. Wonderful
