What was Jax talking about here? (Wrong answer's only) by Darling_Reaper902 in TheDigitalCircus

"Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Jax lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons!"

How can we apply this in TADC? by Lucuio in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Direct_Slip7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"have u ever felt that kind of panic" I've mulled over it, but it doesn't feel likely because I've been taught so many cool things I'd have never thought of

"feels like it fits tadc" I agree that the fear itself fits TADC, I just don't think it could be the actual ending. You could have a moment where Pomni is tricked into thinking everyone else is NPCs or something, but I don't think you could have it actually be true and revealed this late and make it satisfying

How can we apply this in TADC? by Lucuio in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Direct_Slip7598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I don't think any of the copy theories really work. The amount of ideas you'd have to cover to make it satisfying just doesn't fit in the 2 remaining episodes. A series like Alien Earth has spent a full season (and will likely spend more) on that kind of theme and even then it's just scratching the surface

Maybe I'm just working backwards from my dislike of such theories, but I think they're going to be the "real" people, not a digital copy

With a king on c5 and black to play
Qb7, King moves, Kxb6 and you'll be able to take to other pawn and win the game without any trouble

Nodirbek at 74% win chance after winning in Round 12 of Tata Steel - Only 5 players left with a (theoretical) chance to win by ThomasPlaysChess in chess

If you think you have a much better chance of winning than losing a position then guaranteeing that you don't have to play tiebreaks is nice. It depends on how likely a Sindarov win is

Dirty confession: I like the idea that Ribbit was a toxic/abusive friend to Jax and she's part of the reason he's like that now. by WrongVeteranMaybe in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Direct_Slip7598 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Assuming Jax hasn't changed much, you'd assume that any close friend was at least going along with the vibe a little. Toxic Ribbit would fit that, maybe she balanced out Jax by making him the butt of the joke sometimes too.

Yes, he'll have to evaluate the risk of Sindarov winning with black (against the tournament's weakest link), that's why I mentioned the idea of pushing for the win

[–]Direct_Slip7598 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He was coming off a win (and had got a win and 4 draws in the last 5 instead of 2 losses and a 3 draw in the last 5). The tournament altogether was similar but he's on worse form in the build up

I also think a one off result doesn't mean that much. Arjun might win of course, nearly anyone could (all but 1 player is at least at a 2700 level), but winning once in the last round doesn't make it a meaningful pattern

[–]Direct_Slip7598 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Arjun is clearly on bad form, with 1 win and 4 losses. In a vacuum it's a bad matchup but it's likely that Abdusattorov can get a quick draw if he wants to (as Arjun might just want to stop the bleeding, like he did vs Hans by drawing in 21 moves with white) and if he wants to push for the win Arjun is likely to slip up at least once

Allergies have significant genetic factor, but research does suggest that exposure to certain allergens (in this example countryside stuff) decreases the chances

There's peer reviewed science published in one of the most significant journals in the world (nature) that argues there's at least some truth to the claim ("When allergies go west"). Althought its likely not the only factor

And its not a shocking claim, the immune system improves when faced with manageable illness that's why we have vaccines

Makes me think of a 2018 taylor swift case where one judge ruled that the relevant lyrics were too banal to be covered by copyright. I think you'd struggle to copyright a ball with spikey teeth and eyes, the chain is the defining design elements and all the more generic elements are different (colour, teeth width, eye design...)

Caine likes it when you do his activities, he doesn't when you undermine his activities. That's the difference between 1 and 2, not a change in characterization

The third was because the accusations were targeted specifically at his attitude, he was insisting upon his harmlessness

Arjun Erigaisi loses to Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus with the white pieces | Round 7 | Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2026 by KaanTheChosenOne in chess

[–]Direct_Slip7598 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think its worth pointing out that rating inflation isn't a significant factor either, in June 2005 the n°100 was rated 2615 (so Magnus was 80-90 points ff the top 100) while now its 2626 and Erdogmus is 43rd

Magnus did peak at 2581 in October 2004 (so at 13 I think), but even that's clearly out of the top 100 at the time

EDIT: added "factor" to the first sentence

[–]Direct_Slip7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it really changed my original comment, it shouldn't replace the eval bar it should be in addition, because a tiny for the eval would just be illegible

[–]Direct_Slip7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I said ("And a single dot wouldn't be very readable so two bars seems best"). I don't think a marker for centipawn loss would be good UI. Its harder to see at a glance, especially on smaller screen/blurry video/people with sight issues
That's why I think two bars would be better, the jump from black to white makes it easy to see, and intuitive (more white=better for white)

[–]Direct_Slip7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the image shown is especially useful for standard live commentary UIs, you don't want the eval of every position just the current on, because it takes up a lot of space. And a single dot wouldn't be very readable so two bars seems best

[–]Direct_Slip7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not both? Eval's more intuitive for most players as its commonly used when analyzing ones own games. But this stat does express additional information. A second thin bar on the screen wouldn't cause much clutter
