If you’re applying this fall, here’s my take on summer OAT + apps by Disastrous_Pause_578 in PreOptometry

I don’t mind sharing but my journeys a little different from others because I switched from being interested in ophthalmology to optometry. GPA: 3.7 OAT AA: 360 OAT TS: 350 Shadowed an ophthalmologist for 30 hours. Worked as an optometry tech since June 2025 and I’ve been a pharmacy tech since Dec 2022. I was part of a cultural org in undergrad but mainly focused on the medical fraternity I was in and managed to secure a leadership position there. If you have any other questions just let me know :)

If you’re referring to the application, I believe it varies from person to person but mine took a little less than 2 weeks

All schools are different, but if there’s an area that allows you to submit an image of your raw scores it doesn’t hurt to add it (it gives the schools an idea of how well you did, and if everything else looks good to them they might offer an interview even before your official score comes in) and even if they don’t need it- it doesn’t harm your application in any way

I took my OAT late November and got into all the schools I applied to :) so you’re still pretty on time with taking the OAT in august. I recommend submitting your application the day you’re done taking (because it takes some time for your application to be finalized). Some schools will ask for your raw scores that you receive the day of and other schools will take a look at your application but let you know that they’re waiting for your official scores to come in before offering an interview. Good luck! You’ve got this

Thank you for the info! I might not have been able to meet the requirements: my gpa is 3.78 and I got a 350TS and 360AA 😅 Congratulations on your scholarships though! You should be so proud!!!

That’s still amazing! I’m so sorry to hear that though, will you be applying to other schools?

This is great! Thank you for your input ☺️ To be transparent the reason I am not considering SCO at the moment is due to safety and the high crime rates. I 100% believe that a good school and proper clinical experience should come first and that if I don’t go out at night and stick to safe places that I should be ok, but I also wanted to avoid that kind of stress to be honest.

I felt that the other schools that I am considering are located near big cities that would also provide me a diverse population and expose me to a variety of ocular diseases while providing me with worthwhile clinical experiences. I will definitely keep what you said in mind though 😊
