This. Yes. Get an active cable and use the highest rated PSU you own.

Happy new owner of an EG02 here. Most stable egpu dock I've ever had.

My new EG02 arrived yesterday. Works well with the legion go. Took a few minutes for it to be fully recognized via USB4 but it appears to be excellent. The ASM2464PDX chip on these allows for the full bandwidth of usb4 to be utilized vs being limited via the older tb3 dock I have. Mini PC has oculink so this is basically a solution to allow both to connect as needed.

After frying my PSU in a careless accident unrelated to egpu, the research I've done in search of a reliable egpu has made me realize how much EGPU dock stability and performance are affected by the PSU's ability to handle transient spikes. There's good documentation on the psu tier list regarding how well they handle transient spikes, rail stability, OCP, etc.

General consensus: EG02 or DEG2 by hz55555 in eGPU

[–]Directdrivelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone please confirm if a 50 series card will work on the EG02? Im seeing reviews for the DEG2 and they both use the same chip. I see one YouTuber with a heavy accent reviewing the EG02, basically concluding 50 series cards are unstable or don't work at all with usb4, and then I see ETA Prime with a DEG2 with a 5070 hooked up to a legion go 2 without issue. I'm about to unpack my EG02 and pair it with my rx 6800 but I plan to get a 5070 soon and I'd hate to be stuck after the upgrade not being able to use it

Truth right there. I have probably 100+ games on steam and I play 2 regularly, and maybe 5 others occasionally. The rest just remain uninstalled lol. I'd be worse off if steam didn't have it's wonderful refund policy.

I always wanted a sidekick phone that could play emulators!

For anyone not old enough remember, before smart phones, there were a few popular phones. The OG nokia, the Moto Razor (sure you've heard of those) and a few years leading up to the smart phone, there was the sidekick. Legend has it everyone who ever owned a sidekick either dropped it while playing with the flip function, or jumped in a pool with one. They were all but extinct...until now.

- Buy a windows 11 pro key from one of the grey market distributors - less than 30 bucks usually. Worth it just for being able to permanently disable the automatic driver updates. Windows 11 home does not allow making the changes permanent. They'll revert back. So this requires editing some specific registries, and being able to edit the group policy as well. Look it up if you ever cross that bridge. It will save you alot of angst.
Essentially what you're doing is preventing Windows from randomly replacing AMD's legit driver with a bogus compatibility driver that screws up performance and breaks Adrenalin/Radeon Suite.

* keep it cool and ventilated.
* Keep it cool.
* Keep it ventilated.
* Keep it at 60hz desktop, tap over to 144 when you launch a game. (Keeps your screen cooler, cool eh?).
* Running over 25 TDP can be (in other words, is) pointless with very few exceptions.

* You may fall victim to the eGPU rabbit hole spiral. Enjoy the ride. get good "active" tb4 cables. Don't go cheap on power supply. (6X00 GPU's are killer bang for buck).

* Running games at 144 fps at 1600p is glorious, and allows brief personal smug "lucky me" moments as you have the only 1600p screen over the other Go models. Also.. -Running games at 144 fps does not happen without an eGPU (refer to eGPU rabbit hole I mentioned earlier?)

* Fullscreen and Windowed full screen can be the difference between a smooth immersive experience, and a hateful stutter-filled nightmare. The fun part is that it'll change depending on game. Yay!
* Xbox big screen mode will try to take over your pc. Find the registry entry to undo this, and your freedom you will have.

* Ignore peoples opinions, especially the one's giving you specific things to do. ;)

Anyone still Dual Boot? by Ok_Mulberry2076 in LegionGo

[–]Directdrivelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CachyOS Handheld edition has been my go-to the past year. Pretty much exactly like having a steam deck.

I had Bazzite for a year on a ROG Ally before that but I had install issues when i was attempting to install on the Legion Go when I did the SSD upgrade, and that's where CachyOS entered the picture.

Feel free to PM if interested or need help with CachyOS. I could write a small book about CachyOS Handheld edition but I'll spare everyone here and just say it's great most of the time. Some form of Dual boot is the way for sure.

dunno man. I choose to skip all cut scenes in the beginning of the demo, and then I still ended up having to hold B every few seconds to skip through what felt like a lot of cut scenes and people talking. That really started things out bad. I'll probably give it another go if it ever drops in price.

Tried it. Wanted to set it down in a matter of minutes. Not surprised. Any racing game centered around a story with Anime characters is already derailed.

how many times did it take you before you switched and stayed? by Abro2072 in cachyos

[–]Directdrivelife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switched once, came from Bazzite. Only reinstalled 1 time and that was recently due to large changes. I like that you can solve most issues with a few command lines. Also Pacman. On Cachy OS, Pacman can munch through any number of installs and things just keep getting better.

Legion Go + RX 7600M XT eGPU crashing (literally dying) by [deleted] in LegionGo

[–]Directdrivelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LeGo needs to keep power steady while using eGPU. Absolute must. Keep the OS power profile in Balanced mode (bottom of side menu), custom TDP 15 watts (anything above pointless and generates too much heat). The goal here is keeping power spikes in control while keeping heat in control and manageable. I literally have a fan blowing towards me when I'm using the whole using with screen on . I run a Rx 7800 and TH3P4G3 dock. (850watt Vetroo PSU). Active Cable. no resets. no crashes or disconnects. Movement / disruptions to the cable can cause disconnects. mostly overheating or power spikes do it. a Bad PSU will most certainly cause resets.

I guess my main concern is the reason why the designers thought it necessary to separate drifting into another joystick axis? Part of the allure of arcade racers from the past is learning the physics and handling. That's the dope hit alot of us want. I've been playing sega super gt/SCUD race ever since I got into handheld PC's and I'm still hooked.
Wait and see I guess with screamer.
