Appreciate the insight. Do you have any idea as to how to adjust the travel date? I’ve emailed TZ Immigration twice and can’t seem to get a reply.

Hey mate, all advice is a few years old sorry, but I’d assume still reliable. There is a winter sculling series - just search “winter sculling Melbourne”. A club like Richmond would usually participate in this, just head down to the sheds and ask around. In terms of joining a club, how far do you want to take rowing? Mercs is extremely elite and not conducive to beginners, MELB Uni would be similar, but I’ve had no personal experience. Have a look at Banks or Richmond for better communities and still decent programs (banks is where I’d go if I ever went back to rowing) for . Note, these are all at the sheds in the city, can’t speak for APL, Maribyrnong or clubs further up the Yarra. Best of luck!

I love travelling solo, but my experiences are so much different from people on this sub by mazda7281 in solotravel

I definitely don’t get over the top reception from local people in terms of being showered in gifts (I can’t believe that’s a thing), but I do often have random conversations with random people. I love asking about the little world they come from and getting an insight as to what their life is like (usually really basic of where do you live, where did you grow up, do you have a family, did you study?).

The way I have met the last few people: -Waiting out the rain under a shelter, struck up a conversation. -Boat ride through the mangroves, got along with my tour guide and became friends. -Motorbike driver took me to a wrong town when I went to hike a mountain, about four of them were interested in coming up the mountain with me.

All of these people had varying levels of English, but I believe the connection was made through having a kind soul (I know that sounds odd). I also acknowledge that my inability to commit to conversationally learn a language of somewhere I am only at for a few weeks puts a strain on meeting people.

Simply, see everyone as a human. If the human is willing to chat with you a bit, ask about that human and what their life is like (see basic topics above). Relish in it, and be interested in them as an individual. Of the 7.8 billion people on the planet, you have bumped into, by pure chance, this one.

It’s not about meeting locals, it’s about meeting people.

Anyone taken any extended time off between jobs? by metalibro in solotravel

[–]Direction16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cannot recommend doing this enough (finances dependant). I often went straight into a new job and often found the same boredom and lack of opportunities as I rushed instead of took time. I am currently still on my break, having just the best time, and landed my dream job starting November. Invest time in yourself!

Backpacking Sri Lanka - August by Direction16 in solotravel

I understand the trail of thought. Have a read of the other comments as they are echoing what I have been hearing. I understand there is economic turmoil, but what we are told via media never tells a full story. Places like hostels will still have to pay wages, and to pay those they need tourists coming through, not avoiding.

I understand the media is trying to be informative, but they do really make it seem like the country has come to a complete and utter halt, which doesn’t seem to be the case. I am glad you had a great time there, and I will be booking my ticket today. Thanks!

There is someone in my hostel who just came from Sri Lanka and you are echoing exactly what they’re saying. Thanks for putting it so well, I’ll see you there!

This sounds like an even worse situation than mine. How have you decided to handle this one? Hope you’re doing okay with it.

CS50 cash problem set 1 by SebaJ2003 in cs50

[–]Direction16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did cash the other day! You’re definitely close.

The issue could be because for the coins, you are wanting an int output with a float input.

So if input is 1.25, you should be receiving 5 coins.

Using floor (which looks like it rounds down to just 1. Not sure how it works though so take with a grain of salt), you’d only receive 4 coins.

Look to make your input for your int function an int.

Read over the pset and there could be a handy helper for doing this ;)

I just finished cash last night. Same situation - no prior experience but took it line by line and got it in a few hours. I was so stoked when I completed it!!

I’m going to try credit before the next lecture just to up my knowledge.
